Angling: Great sport at Rutland Water
In the words of one angler Rutland Water continues to "fish its socks off!"
In the words of one angler Rutland Water continues to "fish its socks off!"Boat anglers Andrew Bentley and Peter Andrews recorded some superb rainbows recently, Bentley managing a 6lb 4oz with Andrews recording trout of 5lboz and 4lb 7oz. Both used floating lines with buzzers.
The fishing at Grafham Water has also been very good for both bank and boat anglers with the eastern end of the reservoir producing the main percentage of the trout caught.
Boat anglers have had the best of the sport this week with blobs, boobies, cormorants and diawl bachs taking the vast majority of trout caught.
Bank anglers have also had some excellent sport mainly from the north end and bowl of the dam and G buoy on floating lines with diawl bachs, crunchers and cormorants fished slowly.
Nine teams fished the Anglian Water Airflo International Midlands heat at Grafham last week bidding to qualify for the Midlands final at Grafham Water on July 20.
The match fished to a stunning rod average of 6.63, Mal Bruce fishing for Fish Hawks A caught the best fish at 3lb 13oz and the best bag of eight fish for 25lb was taken by Stewart Thomson of Pitsford Pirates who had eight fish for 25lb.
Winning team were Loop UK, with 45 fish for 118lb 12oz.
We all know that there are some huge pike to be had from our local trout waters but fishing times have been limited in the past. Now Anglian Water are to issue 'Predator' season permits at all of their waters.
You will have to fish with flies over 10cm using a wire trace for pike and zander only. I have also been told that day tickets will also be available.
