Three Peterborough crews entered the big National Schools Regatta at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham at the weekend and all made the semi-finals.

Thomas Marshall and Tom Nash, strong medal contenders, were joined by 41 other crews in the J15 doubles and easily qualified from the time trial for the knockout stages.

They continued to excel in the semi-finals where they came from behind to take second place, missing out on first place by just over a second.

But they got a bad draw in the final and lined up in the lane most exposed to a strong wind.

It meant they just missed out on a medal but their coach Matthew Newton praised their achievement in reaching the final in consecutive years.

Camilla Plumb reached the semi-finals of the girls’ single sculls but in a close race she finished fifth and was just 10 seconds short of qualifying for the six-lane final.

Aimee Parker, Hannah Chatfield, Megan Stoker and Charlotte Adams made it through the time trial stage of the girls’ coxless fours event.

In both semi-finals for the event, the results closely followed the lane numbers and the girls found that the disadvantage of an exposed lane was enough to end their run with a fifth place finish.
