Alan Swann: on greedy oik John Terry, calling for Wenger's head and the support of Robbie Keane
WHAT a load of fuss about nothing, unless you are Mrs Terry of course.
WHAT a load of fuss about nothing, unless you are Mrs Terry of course.I'm happy that an ignorant, greedy oik like John Terry has been dumped as England skipper, but not because he had an affair with the former girlfriend of a former team-mate.
I fear England coach Fabio Capello has been bumped into a decision by an obssessed media. Having claimed their big scalp they are probably right now rifling through Rio Ferdinand's Wikipedia entry to discover reasons why the Manchester United defender is the wrong choice as replacement.
They won't have to dig very deep of course because like 99 per cent of footballers Ferdinand is hardly squeaky clean.
There's putting a shopping trip ahead of a drugs test of course as well as salacious holiday videos which are probabaly still available from the top shelf of adult shops.
With brilliantly comic timing, Ferdinand is appointed to the job at the very time he is serving a suspension for belting an opponent around the head.
There's a good chance Ferdinand won't even be fit to take part in the World Cup, but isn't the whole issue of football captaincy over-rated anyway?
Toss a coin, exchange a pennant and choose which end to defend first. Even Robbie Savage would struggle to mess that up.
THANKS to Wayne Bridge for providing the biggest laugh of the week though.
The threat, through 'friends' of course, that he might not be prepared to share the same dressing room as John Terry at the World Cup was hilarious.
Best central defender in the country or the average understudy to the best left-back in the world? Fabio Capello wouldn't even need 12 minutes to make that decision.
AS a recently outed Arsenal fan, I feel I am qualified to call for Arsene Wenger's head.
How frustrating it is to watch all that pretty football come to nothing because of the world's most pig-headed, stubborn manager.
They only needed a Didier Drogba-type striker to beat both Manchester United and Chelsea in the last couple of weeks.
Arsenal passed Chelsea silly on Sunday and yet the game was over after 20 minutes because of Wenger's bizarre theory of playing a midget at centre-forward.
Apparently he had 30 million quid or so to spend in January. Surely it would have been worth a punt as Arsenal hadn't been this close to the top of the table at this time of the year for five years.
Instead he signed Sol Campbell - a centre-back so far past his sell-by date, the signing should have been banned under environmental health laws.
THE battle for fourth place in the Premier League looks like being one long yawn.
Liverpool were lucky to be able to hide behind the fact that they played for an hour with 10 men against Everton. They were useless and devoid of ambition or creativity, when they had 11 men on the field.
Martin O'Neill may get prickly at suggestions that his team are anything but wonderfully entertaining, but whenever I see them play against anyone any good, they put 11 men behind the ball and launch the ball forward in the vain hope that one day Gabriel Agbonlahor's finishing will match his pace.
That tactic was enough to frustrate another Champions League contender in Spurs, a club with a manager with one gameplan and no back-up apart from signing extra strikers he doesn't need.
Manchester City are still suffering from a terrible signing policy and not just by the previous manager. Is it just me or has Patrick Vieira over-indulged on rich pasta sauce during his time in Italy?
GOBBY politicians like David Mellor aside, most people support one football club in their lifetime. Robbie Keane appears to have supported half a dozen in his childhood.
Wolves, Liverpool, Spurs and Celtic have all been clubs Keane has apparently supported all his life, but at least a move to Scotland should be one that suits his declining standards.
He will be perfectly compatible with his latest manager Tony Mowbray as well. Both promise much, but deliver very little.
A HORRIBLE trip to a horrible place tonight (Posh away at Cardiff) has been made more bearable by the rugby union results over the weekend.
Travelling to Cardiff, with a Welsh photographer as well, on the back of a Welsh win at Twickenham would have been the stuff of nightmares.
So well done Martin Johnson. Beating the Welsh at rugby is like beating Australia at cricket, Scotland at football and the French at boules - the delight at the upset it will cause among the beaten will match the euphoria of the win itself.

Swanny's fanmail:
I wouldn't sack John Terry as England captain because he is setting an example which most Premier League players would respect.
And do we expect anything else from a bunch of over-paid, self-centred, money-grabbing, badge-kissing, product-endorsing Premier League footballers.
I am surprised the players rep hasn't been on telly moaning how hard it is for footballers today!

You are quite right about Andy Murray's mum. Very scary. When he lost I expected her to stand up and say: "You ARE the weakest player, goodbye!"
The wait for a British Grand Slam winner goes on. Bad luck for the plucky Scotsman.
The Fool on the Hill
Andy Murray's gruesome grimacing is awful to behold.
But when the camera settles on his mum, Andy actually looks quite normal by comparison.

I think Andy Murray will win Wimbledon this year. Surely Federer can't go on forever and when Murray does finally win a Slam, I think many more will come.
But Swanny's right as Murray does need a better serve, especially a second serve.
