Your reaction: Players now have far too much power

STRIKER Aaron Mclean's transfer request and the angry reaction of chairman Darragh MacAnthony has provoked some strong words from Posh fans.
MacAnthony claimed in The Evening Telegraph yesterday that Mclean's contract demands included a payment for image rights and a promise that he would always be the highest paid player at the club.

Mclean's agent claimed the transfer request was made after the club broke promises regarding the player's right to move to a bigger club. Now the fans have their say.....

Hopefully Darragh will be at the club a very long time, but players just pass through.

Players have far too much power these days, rightly or wrongly, so it's probably best to let Aaron go, if that is indeed what he wants.

His agent is only trying to get the best deal for his client, so you can't blame him either. The club are trying to get the best available price for a player they would rather keep. The player wants to play at the highest level as soon as possible.

As fans, we don't want to lose a 30-goals-a-season striker, even if he might not score as many next season. One way or another this needs sorting out quickly, otherwise it could ruin our whole pre-season plans. What potential transfer target would want to join a club with all this bickering going on?

Posh We Are

IMAGE rights in League One! What on earth are Aaron's advisors on.

To be fair, the whole deal outlines greed as well as the step up. I am intrigued to see this report on the grounds of holding a multi-millionaire to ransom!

Aaron has been completely screwed over by his agent and it's plain to see that if Wolves don't come up with the £2.5m fee, then he has ruined his Posh career as a result of all this.

If Aaron had gone about this professionally saying that he didn't have the future he wanted at Posh then there would be no issue ... his agent has had the last laugh!

I FIND it more disgusting that a chairman has to stoop to playground level tactics.

The guy asked for a transfer so either sell him, play him or let him rot in the reserves.

However, he hasn't gone to the media and said Posh only offered me this and this so why do you need to do so Darragh MacAnthony? It's a bit like my dad is bigger than your's at school.

We have seen through his disgraceful treatment of a loyal player in Mark Tyler just how this guy treats his players so he cannot be trusted.

Stop being stupid and start signing more players to make the squad stronger.

Dan Jackson

DARRAGH is right to show just how greedy Mclean is being.

He's the boss, he pays the wages, and if he wants to make certain details public, then that's up to him.

Well done Darragh.

A Higher Presence

It seems like the agent is the major player in this transfer request, not Aaron. Just get rid before the rest of the team start making stupid demands.

Big AZ

ONE question. Who will/has done more for Posh? Darragh or Aaron Mclean?

Aaron doesn't want to play for us anymore so let's hear how greedy he and his agent are.

Bucks

I WOULDN'T mess with Darragh. It seems like he doesn't take kindly to not getting what he wants.

Personally, I don't like this character assassination of Aaron, a bloke who has always given 100 per cent effort in his Posh career and hasn't made any comments throughout all this.

It's just time to strike the right deal and move on.

Battersea Posh

It just shows how much Posh means to Aaron (not a lot!).

As soon as the offer of more money comes up it's farewell to Posh and everyone who has looked after him.

If he wants to go, let him go. He should not be kept at the club if he has no loyalty to it.

He will always be remembered as one of the best strikers the club has ever had, but you can't help but have a bitter taste in your mouth following his decision.

Jon Marshall

I am gutted re Aaron. I cannot believe he has turned his back on Posh and Darragh MacAnthony.

Peter Woods

Aaron Mclean is a disgrace. I don't care how good he is, he is just another greedy footballer who needs to remember where he was two years ago.

If it was down to me he would rot in the reserves.

Phil Marchant

Aaron's transfer would be a slap in the face for the supporters who travel all year to away games and also to Darragh who has given him fame and fortune by bringing him from Grays Athletics for £150,000.

I think it's a bit ungrateful of Mclean. If he goes to Wolves and he doesn't get into the first team, he'll be in the reserves for half the year anyway.

Tom Lindsey

Let Mclean go, he only wants the money. At least if we get £3 million we can buy a good loyal player.

Posh4eva

Posh have to stand firm and not allow Mclean to go on the cheap. By the start of the season he might take his money goggles off and see that life is better at Posh than Wolves reserves

His relationship with Posh fans will never be the same.

Posh Nige

Now it looks like Aaron is going I think we should look at bringing in a goalscorer proven at League One or Championship level to help us up.

The Hoff

Aaron you should stay for one more season.

Ben

It would be silly for Mclean to leave. He would be throwing away a superb career at Posh. Why Aaron? Why?

Alyn Line

Take the money, sell Mclean! Replace him with Darren Huckerby or re-sign Leon McKenzie. If Posh want to be big, sign big!

Chancer

Hopefully, Wolves will come in with an offer the club is happy with and we can put all this behind us. Football would be a much nicer place without agents

TMitC, Eye

Aaron has been easily influenced by what seems to be a greedy agent. I hope for his sake it doesn't backfire on him.

It's okay scoring in League Two, but now it's harder he should stay and see how good he really is – then more clubs would come in for him.

Posh would then get the money they deserve for the gamble they took. Well done Darragh

Razor

Aaron's agent has met his match in Darragh MacAnthony and thank the lord for that.

Instead of Aaron earning more money, he will still be playing for Posh next season on the same wages as before.

It doesn't seem like Aaron has a good business head so maybe he should stick to kicking the ball into back of the net on a regular basis.

RogerLeChat

Agents are the worst thing to happen to football. All they want is a good payday.

Disgusted

Who does Aaron Mclean think he is? Let him go to Wolves and let him end up the same as Freddie Eastwood.

I hope I never see him in a Posh shirt again. Does he think he is a Ronaldo of League One? He should be ashamed of himself.

Well done Darragh. Stick to your guns don't be blackmailed as no player is bigger than our club.

Colin
Whittlesey

If we get £2 million plus Freddie Eastwood I'd let him go.

Crinklecupchip

We should let Aaron go. He's been really greedy. There are 11 players in a team and he has let the rest down.

Mrs Jackson

Get a grip Mclean, don't listen to your agent. He just wants to feather his own nest.

You're at a great club going places, with a chairman that respects his players, and fans behind you all the way. Listen to your heart and believe Posh can go all the way.

I guess the Posh have never had a player like this as player power has been alive and kicking for the past few years.

It makes a mockery of the whole game imo when a player can not only tell a club to stick their contract where the sun don't shine but can also earn more than his boss.

Obviously Aaron is within his rights to ask for a transfer. Most players don't have the loyalty to a club that most fans have. They have a short career and want to make the most money possible.
Also the club don't have loyalty to players that you might expect, viz the players, even long serving ones, they want to offload despite a contract. Perhaps they have to do that when they want to improve the team.
It's a hard game and at this time of year it shows!
