STANGROUND teenager Luke Ferrara has been handed the chance to take the next step up the international ice hockey ladder.
Ferrara (15), brother of Phantoms star Robert, is one of the young prospects chosen for an England Under 16 selection camp next month in Sheffield.
Having starred for the Under 14 national set-up before being handed the vice-captaincy of the Under 15s last term, Ferrara should have an excellent chance of making the team.
But with his dream to emulate the efforts of his siblings – eldest brother James plays with the Nottingham Panthers in the Elite League – the youngest Ferrara is leaving nothing to chance.
He said: "I have been in this position every summer now for the past few years where I get the call and then have to wait for the camp to start which does get pretty nerve wracking.
"I always get nervous even though I have been there before. I should make the team but I always question my ability which I suppose is a good thing as it pushes me on to try harder.
"If I make the team I will be delighted as it gives me a great chance to play against the best players in this age group and that is excellent for my development.
"One day I would love to play for the Peterborough Phantoms and then hopefully move on into the Elite League like my brother James has done at Nottingham.
"I know it is going to take a lot of hard work to achieve those dreams but getting selected again for the England squad will be another step so I will be working like a demon to get picked again."
