Posh held on for victory in an astonishing nine-goal thriller in front of the Sky Tv cameras.
Craig Mackail-Smith's hat-trick should have led to an easy Posh win, but some awful defending always kept Rovers interested.

Posh led by two goals on four separate occasions, but each time the visiors fought back.

The win was marred however by a serious injury to striker Aaron Mclean who appeared to dislocate an elbow when landing awkwardly five minutes before the break.

Mclean had scored on 23 minutes to add to a 17th minute goal from Mackail-Smith before Steve Elliott pulled a goal back.

A penalty and a brilliant individual goal sealed Mackail-Smith's hat-trick after the break, but Rovers responded through a Shane Blackett own goal and a Jeff Hughes tap-in.

Substitute Scott Rendell's close range header seven minutes from time appeared to secure the points, but Rickie Lambert's free-kick ensured a nervy final five minutes.

Under-fire goalkeeper Joe Lewis made three one-on-one saves at crucial moments.

Posh: Joe Lewis, Russell Martin, Chris Westwood, Shane Blackett, Jamie Day; Sergio Torres, Charlie Lee, Dean Keates, George Boyd: Aaron Mclean, Craig Mackail-Smith.
Subs: Mark Tyler, Scott Rendell, Paul Coutts, Chris Whelpdale, Tom Williams.

Rovers: Steve Phillips, Chris Lines, Steve Elliott, David Pipe, Byron Anthony; Stuart Campbell, Aaron Lescott, Craig Disley, Jeff Hughes; Rickie Lambert, Daryl Duffy.
Subs: Ryan Green, Craig Hinton, Mike Green, Joe Kuffour, Ben Hunt.

Referee: Andy D'Urso.

Very lucky to hold on to that 'victory'. Again our defensive worries have been exposed. Martin and Day look OK, but Westwood was clearly unfit and Blackett....well what can I say!!!!! Lee looked like a lost sheep again. Hopefully the arrival of Gibson and the new centre back may help. I certainly hope so as I have no fingernails left!!!!

A win's a win! That's all that mattered. Well done Craig. Defence was ropey - Lewis needs to take a lot more command. Hope Aaron's elbow isn't too serious - but Rendall looked fine. Bring on the cobblers!

Not very pretty on HD!
CMS has the quality to frighten higher league defenders - our best player.
Awsome today! Well done.
Boyd'y - did ok today aside from that we were awful!
Just goes show what a poor defence we have as commented nearly every week!
Didnt think our midfield was much better.
Also ok, Rendell did score but still not anywhere close to knocking on Fergie's door for a start - may get a chance now - lets hope Aaron returns sooner than later - Rendell gives us nothing. Without CMS and Boyd whilst Mclean may not be playing we are nothing. But 3 points are 3 points now matter how poor at the back we played.

No wonder the defence was under pressure, it was a case of guess what Lewis is going to do (or not do next).

Charlie Lee wandered around the pitch, Torres was dragged into the middle so that we played with no right wing till he was taken off. Don't know why people are having a go at Blackett, he was trying to cover for the unfit but plucky Westwood as well as covering his own position. If Lewis had opened his mouth then the own goal would not have happened.

We played schoolboy football for the most part and were very very lucky. Rendell looked as if he had just finished a marathon just 5 minutes after coming on and seemed more inclined to whine than run. Ferguson needs to look objectively at his players and needs to talk to someone with a bit of experience and Knowledge about his tactics. Its pointless having a team full of potential if you don't also have a team that can produce.

Lewis really does need to go back to basics - looking at him and Mark Tyler warming up before the match, Tyler looked every bit the professional and Lewis every bit the rookie. I know which I would prefer in goal currently

There's no doubt CMS was MOTM today but the player that impressed me again was young Coutts. Then again given my superb knowledge of the game I have been saying this since I 1st see the guy play. Now, when will you give this talent a chance Ferguson? He's actually better than you currently have in midfield, so what is there to lose?

Been saying this since the end of last season, when will Ferguson actually realise this and stop talking the rubbish he has been coming out with for the last few post match interviews? Its now getting very boring.

Rubbish! As proven today Rendell is a out and out goalscorer. One chance and its in the net, he's proven it before and is a better poacher than Mclean anyday of the week. If he had had Mclean's chances this season so far I bet he would be on somewhere between 5 and 10 goals easily. I for one hope he gets a run because I believe he will do well. Then again we should have sold Mclean when we had the chance, for half than money we could have got someone proven in League 1 whereas he is not.

Stevecat, you really are talking Tosh. Rendell is a completely different player to McLean as long as other people are doing the hard work he MAY score goals. A lot like Tony Philiskirk used to be, but as for Rendell grafting forget it. He is a useful sub...But no more than that.

Have to agree with you about Coutts, he looked to have more midfield nouse than all the others put together, a thorougly good performance, if a little short on playing time.

As for Lee, are you having a laugh? Blackett...what can I say...I'll tell you what you can say, he played his heart out today trying to cover for the not very fir Westwood. OK he was unlucky to put the ball into his own net, apart from that he worked his socks off. Football is a confidence game and when you knock players for no good reason, it takes them a long time to get back on board..So how about some support instead of all this jibe, after all last week they should have won, but didn't, this week they did, so have a pint and celebrate
