Warmer weather sees angling moving up a gear with three-figure nets

SPORT certainly moved up a gear with the onset of much warmer, even summer-like, conditions.
Carp were on the feed at just about all of our local waters with quite a few anglers bagging three-figure nets. There were some cracking carp taken from both Kingsland and Eldernell off the surface, several going into double figures.
Railway Lakes at Whittlesey also fished well. This could be the fishery to try any time now for some big fish action on the deeper pool with carp to 30lb on the cards.
I also had good reports from Northey Park Fishery and Weston Lake at Peakirk continues to pack them in, a sure sign the water is in good form.
Biggin Lake at Oundle is yet another water well worth a visit. I should point out that you are no longer allowed to fish floating baits of any sort here now – you will be banned from the fishery if you try it.
THORPE Basin is always a very popular venue at this time of year. Some good nets of skimmers and bream have been taken along with plenty of roach weights.
With a good head of fish in the basin predators are never far away and they run to a very good size. Nine year-old Callum Sigourney can vouch for that after taking a massive 20lb-plus fish, for him and indeed for many anglers that's a fish of a lifetime.
AT this time of year Decoy Lakes is the hub of the action with quite a few of our local clubs heading off to this productive and very popular fishery just outside Whittlesey.
In the open matches once again it was John Whincup (right) who set the pace for the weekend, winning both the Saturday and Sunday opens.
Not just off one lake either – Saturday's match was fished on the new 'Strips' while Sunday's event saw him win off a very average peg on the Beastie Pool.
