FA VASE. First Qualifying Round.
WISBECH 5 SWAFFHAM 0
WISBECH produced a five-star, five-goal bonanza in what turned out to be their penultimate game at Fenland Park.
The Fenmen expected to be leaving their home of the past 60 years for a temporary base at Outwell after this comprehensive success, but they will now be turning out at Fenland Park one last time next Saturday in a Ridgeons League game against Dereham.
Boss Steve Taylor said: "It is like the Magic Circus at our place at the minute! We thought this was going to be the last game but now the league have put in a fixture against Dereham for next Saturday because we are both out of the FA Cup.
"But it will be great for the players and fans to have another afternoon at Fenland Park and hopefully we can get another good result."
Wisbech oozed class at times as they despatched lower-level Swaffham in this Vase opener.
Big frontman Nick Impey needed only six minutes to break the deadlock but Wisbech were unable to turn their dominance into more goals until the final 25 minutes when the floodgates really opened.
Stuart Cobb and Scott Cubberley both bagged braces in an action-packed conclusion.
"It could have been double-figures in the end, but it was nice just to get a home win at last," added Taylor.
Wisbech handed a debut to French full-back Sofian Bennour whose deliveries from the right created two goals.
Wisbech: Horton, Bennour (Cook), Pease, Reeve, Setchell, Ablett (Thompson), King, McManus, Impey, Cobb, Smith (Cubberley). Unused: Day.
GORLESTON 2 DEEPING 0
RANGERS chief Tuncay Korkmaz is refusing to press the panic button despite his side crashing to a fourth straight defeat.
Things have gone rapidly downhill for Deeping since a cracking start to the season.
They have tumbled out of the FA Cup, UCL League Cup and FA Vase in successive matches after a 5-2 league drubbing at the hands of Daventry Town, but Korkmaz remains upbeat.
He said: "Losing four in a row is never good and it obviously affects the confidence of players, but we do have players missing and I am not going to panic myself into signing players from here, there and everywhere.
"In the last two games in particular (against Sileby in the League Cup and at Gorleston) we have not been good enough and it is a shame to be out of three cup competitions which could have brought money into the club.
"But we still have plenty to play for in the league and our aim of securing a top three finish has not changed."
Deeping fell behind after eight minutes at Gorleston and conceded a second when chasing the game.
Deeping: Bircham, Duncliffe (Ellis), Goode, Porter, Woods, Baines, Ellison, Weston (Burton-Jones), Kingston (Boome), Semple, Stevens. Unused: Leckie, Korkmaz.
