JANUARY
POSH: Long-serving keeper Mark Tyler and flying wideman David Farrell both made their 300th appearances for the club in a 5-2 hammering of Notts County whose manager Billy Dearden quit after the game.
DARTS: March thrower Kevin Painter suffered PDC World Championship final agony. Painter went down on sudden-death to the legendary Phil Taylor in a match dubbed the greatest of all-time.
ATHLETICS: Heptathlete Julie Hollman was selected to represent Great Britain in a combined events indoor international in Holland.
SPEEDWAY: Former Showground star Ryan Sullivan won the Australian Championship. The Panthers record points scorer won the final round in Mildura to beat Grand Prix rival Leigh Adams on his home track for the coveted crown.
RUGBY: Borough youngster Christopher Humphrey earned himself an England trial. The promising wing forward of King's School began his career in the Borough Under 7s and is the son of long-serving hooker John Humphrey.
BOWLS: Spalding qualifier Graham Smith shook the bowls world by storming through to the semi-finals of the World Indoor Championship.
LADIES FOOTBALL: Teenage goal queen Jade White hit an incredible 10 goals in a weekend. She smashed seven for Peterborough Diamonds Under 15s on the Satirday before belting another three for the Eye United senior side the following day.
ATHLETICS: City-based long-distance star Rob Birchall won the famous 8k Lorne Mountain to Surf Trail race in Australia.
HOCKEY: March Town recorded the biggest victory in their 40-year history by trouncing Boston 14-0 in East Division Three North West.
ATHLETICS: Peterborough Athletic Club earned a seventh North Midlands Cross-Country League title.
SPEEDWAY: Panthers completed their team building for the new season by capturing little-known Polish rider Tomasz Piszcz.
ATHLETICS: An athlete who was once told he would never run again won the big Folksworth 15 road race for the second time in three years. American Jeff Gibson represents the March Braza club.
HORSE RACING: Thorney trainer Pam Sly completed an amazing 43,500-1 treble in the space of a week. Harrycone Lewis triumphed at 33-1, Standing Bloom won at 50-1 and Fullards was first past the post at 25-1.
SPORTS AWARDS: Phantoms scooped four major awards at the annual Evening Telegraph Sports Awards bash at the Moat House Hotel. Coach Kevin King was Sports Personality of the Year, veteran player Doug McEwen took the Sportsman of the Year accolade, long-time fan Ken Cross won the Unsung Hero honour and the Phantoms squad captured the team gong.
POSH: The club were dealt a major financial blow when shirt sponsor Van Asten Logistics was placed into liquidation. It cost Posh in excess of £250,000.
FEBRUARY
POSH: An FA Cup winning manager with international experience was hired to pull Posh away from the Second Division danger zone. Bobby Gould agreed to become voluntary head coach at London Road until the end of the season.
FOOTBALL: Folksworth-born footballer Jon Challinor was included in the England non-league squad after a string of fine performances for Nationwide Conference side Aldershot.
SPEEDWAY: Former Panthers promoter Peter Oakes became the new British Under 21 boss.
ATHLETICS: Veteran triple-jumper Femi Akinsanya was called up to the Great Britain squad for the European Indoor Cup. He finished seventh.
MOTORCYCLING: Yaxley racer Midge Smart gave going to see the grandparents a whole new meaning. Smart won the New Zealand 125cc Championship while spending time visiting relatives in the Southern Hemisphere.
ICE HOCKEY: Netminder Kelly Herring won a call-up to the Great Britain Ladies squad for the World Championships in Italy.
ROWING: Veteran duo Pete Essex and Graham Barks demonstrated why they're the fastest pair in the country with a fine display in the annual Head of the River event on the Nene.
SNOOKER: Stamford teenager Lewis Roberts turned professional.
ROWING: Peterborough City Rowing Club ace Guy Taylor won a silver medal at the Cambridge Indoor Championships.
ATHLETICS: Stan Owen overcame a heavy fall to win the 25th Eastern Vets Cross-Country Championship.
KICK-BOXING: Ramsey Abbey schoolgirl Carly Irwine proved she is not a girl to be messed with after winning a bronze medal at the World Under 17 Championships.
POSH: Club legend Steve Cooper died suddenly at the age of 39. Cooper scored the goal that took Posh to Wembley in 1992 in the second leg of the Third Division play-off semi-final against Huddersfield during a short loan spell.
FOOTBALL: A former city fireman swapped the AMP Peterborough League for a World Cup qualifier. Chris Gannon moved to the Turks & Caicos in the Caribbean due to work commitments and starred for the islands' football team in a two-leg qualifying contest against Haiti. Turks lost both legs.
FOOTBALL: City-based manager Steve Evans took charge of Boston United for a second time after serving an 18 month FA imposed ban from the game.
ATHLETICS: The Peterborough Athletic Club crack Under 17 squad of Daniel Watts, Glen Watts, Matt Gunby and James Mitchell won team bronze in the National Cross-Country Championships.
POSH: Barry Fry bolstered his defence with the capture of hardman Guy Branston on loan from Rotherham on the same day homegrown prodigy Matthew Gill slapped in a transfer request.
SNOOKER: Joe Perry was on the receiving end of a masterclass from Chinese wonderboy Ding Junhui in the first round of the
Masters.
MARCH
LADIES FOOTBALL: Eye Ladies marked their debut season with a silverware double. Maria Rudd's side won the Eastern Regional Division Two title before pulling off a giantkilling act when landing the Plate competition.
FOOTBALL: Stanground lad Jay Mahoney won a two-year scholarship with Boston United.
FOOTBALL: Orton Malborne youngster Liam Douglas signed for professional club Cambridge United.
ICE HOCKEY: Legendary Doug McEwen lit-up Phantoms' 9-1 win at Telford by scoring his 1,000th goal in British ice hockey.
JUDO: Devon Leaver (9) claimed a gold medal at the London International competition. Veteran Jenny Hussey picked up a silver and both Chloe Saunders (8) and Robyn Alexander (14) took bronze.
FOOTBALL: Injury plagued striker Andrew Fotiadis insisted he wouldn't be forced out of London Road despite being branded 'a waste of time' by boss Barry Fry.
DISABLED SWIMMING: Rob Welbourn staked his Paralympic claims by posting three national records, a European record and winning two gold medals at an international meeting in Denmark.
ROWING: The Peterborough City ladies squad registered another top-class performance at the London Head of the River race, finishing 39th out of almost 300 entries.
JUDO: Della Burgess defied a cracked rib to win a bronze medal at the National Grade and Veteran Championships.
BOXING: City fighter Michael Maguire moved to within touching distance of an unprecedented hat-trick of national titles. The 15 year-old cruised past Nick Quigley in the semi-finals of the Class Three Under 45kg category.
FOOTBALL: Yaxley's former Posh youth striker Michael Frew earned the chance to ressurect his professional career with a trial at Lincoln City.
SNOOKER: Joe Perry was dumped out of the Irish Masters in the first round by veteran Nigel Bond.
LADIES FOOTBALL: City girls Mel Obradovic, Jess Farchica and Jade White helped the Nothants Under 16 squad to Midlands Youth Championship glory. White scored in every county game on their way to the title.
MARTIAL ARTS: Karate guru Clifton Findley scooped a ninth British title in 10 years.
MARTIAL ARTS: Young star Daniel Rathbone (12) won two titles at the International Sports Karate Association Championships in Birmingham.
BOWLS: Mary Malton roared to a hat-trick of Northants indoor titles. Malton won the singles, mixed triples and rinks crowns.
ROWING: Guy Taylor of Peterborough City Rowing Club won a gold medal at the East Midlands Indoor Championships and bronze in the overall British Grand Prix series.
APRIL
BOWLS: Nicky Brett completed a title double at the England Indoor Championships. The Yaxley player won pairs and fours crowns.
ATHLETICS: Jacob Smitheringale and Bianca Watts won the boys and girls races respectively at the Peterborough Primary Schools Cross-Country Championships.
FOOTBALL: Neale Wade Community College in March stormed into the final of the English Schools FA Under 18 Cup.
FOOTBALL: Police were called into the tunnel at London Road following a post-match bust-up between Posh head coach Bobby Gould and Swindon manager Andy King. Posh had turned in their best display of the season to power to a 4-2 victory.
ATHLETICS: Peterborough Athletic Club's Under 17 squad took the silver medal at the AAA Young Athletes Road Relays in Birmingham.
LADIES FOOTBALL: Eye Ladies crowned a fine debut season with an Eastern Region League double.
FOOTBALL: Deeping lad Lee Crockett won a dream scholarship with Manchester United. The 16 year-old goalkeeper had impressed at Old Trafford after being spotted playing for Yaxley in the Peterborough & District Junior Alliance League.
BOXING: City promoter Kevin Sanders brought professional boxing back to the city after a three-year absence. Eastfield light-heavyweight Karl Wheeler lit-up the sell-out occasion by defeating Nicky Okoth to preserve his unbeaten record.
SPEEDWAY: Panthers tasted victory for the first time after a 47-46 success over Arena Essex at the Showground in the Elite League on Good Friday. But Polish rider Tomasz Piszcz received a 28-day ban after failing to show for the Easter Monday double header against Coventry Bees.
GREYHOUNDS: Fire Height Dan won the Peterborough Puppy Derby in front of the Sky TV cameras for trainer Mick Puzey.
ICE HOCKEY: Phantoms bid for English National League play-off glory was ended by arch-rivals Milton Keynes at the semi-final stage. The city side bounced back by retaining the League Cup with a two-leg rout of Isle of Wight.
WINDSURFING: Nick Dempsey finished fifth in the World Championships in Esme, Turkey.
GYMNASTICS: Teenage Eye gymnast Louis Smith became only the second ever Briton to be crowned a European Junior champion. Smith swung to glory on the pommel horse a week before celebrating his 15th birthday.
POSH: The club landed a £150,000 windfall after Adam Drury helped Norwich City claim promotion to the Premiership.
SNOOKER: Whittlesey club Childers A ended the Peterborough League season with a finals-day honours hat-trick. They had already won the Division One league title.
BOWLS: Joan Robinson and Nick Wilkie won the English Bowling Federation national indoor mixed pairs when representing Northants. They bashed Humberside pair Peter and Lesley Oliver 24-9.
RUGBY: Borough turned in a sizzling play-off performance at sun-baked Fengate to win English Clubs Championship promotion for the first time. A 33-13 victory over Matlock earned a jump up to Midlands Division Two.
BOXING: City-trained sensation Matt Skelton smashed Michael Sprott to win the British and Commonwealth heavyweight title. Skelton triumphed after 56 seconds of the 12th, and final, round.
SNOOKER: Chatteris cueman Joe Perry dethroned reigning world champion Mark Williams at the World Snooker Championship. Perry pocketed a 13-11 success in the second round before being eliminated by Matthew Stevens in the quarter-finals.
JUNIOR FOOTBALL: PSV Under 16s went out in style by creating their own slice of history. They became the first city side to win the Northants County Cup in more than 20 years when defeating Gregory Celtic 3-2.
DARTS: Cambs returned to the top of the county darts sphere with one title and two second places. Their Ladies 'A' squad were crowned British Inter-Counties Premier Division champions while the county finished runners-up in the Ladies 'B' and overall sections.
MAY
POSH: The club secured their Second Division safety with a fine 4-1 thumping of Blackpool on the penultimate weekend of the season.
FOOTBALL: The Neale Wade School from March suffered golden goal agony in the final of the English Schools Under 18 Trophy. They went down 1-0 to Trinity School from Carlisle at Carlisle United's Brunton Park ground.
CRICKET: England star Robert Croft blasted his biggest ever one-day score to shatter Lincolnshire's hopes of cuasing a C & G Trophy shock. Croft helped Glamorgan to a 110 run win at Lincoln. Cambs were beaten by Northants by 163 runs despite bowling out a first-class county for the first time in their history.
TRAMPOLINING: Matthew Gladders took a bouncing bronze in the British Schools National Finals Under 11 section.
RUGBY: Borough gave Bedford Athletic a real fright as they went down narrowly 22-16 in the East Midlands Cup final.
FOOTBALL: Manager Dick Creasey secured back-to-back United Counties League championship. He led Spalding to the title he also won 12 months earlier at local rivals Holbeach.
FOOTBALL: The bubbly was flowing at the end of a champagne season for Royal Oak as Billy Burton's side scooped the Peterborough Sunday Morning League Premier Division title with a 2-1 win over Nags Head.
JUNIOR FOOTBALL: Peterborough City Under 12s brought the curtain down on what their manager Mick Porter described as 'the perfect season' by completing a treble. They beat Priory Parkside on penalties in the final of the Hunts Cup to complete an incredible haul that also featured Peterborough Junior Alliance League and League Cup honours.
KARATE: The Nash club collected a host of medals at the Black Belt British Schools Championships. Their winners were: Jordan Whitehead (under 135cm), Liam Ellison (145cm), James Thompson (under 155cm) and Jade Bingham (over 155cm).
TENPIN: Teenage star Becki Jolly returned from the European Under 18 Championships in Germany with three medals. The 17 year-old helped England win gold in the trios and silver in the team event as well as earning an individual bronze.
POSH: Andre Boucaud became the club's first summer signing after a agreeing a free transfer switch from Reading but Matthew Gill's seven-year association with the club came to an end when he moved to Notts County.
TENNIS: Ben Fisher, Stephen Dudley and Jack Thorndike led Eastways Under 11s to glory in Cambs Second Division of the National Junior Club League.
ICE HOCKEY: Phantoms Under 16s came within a whisker of being crowned national champions when going down to Guildford in the end-of-season finale.
CRICKET: Fourteen year-old bowler Amar Hussain collected his first Northants Championship when helping Peterborough Town to a two-wicket win at Rushden.
TRIATHLON: Seven PACTRAC stars – Steve Kaye, Chris Jordan, Georgina Gardener, Carol Smallman, Emma Smallman and Jan Rogers – returned with heads held high from the World Championships in Madeira.
POSH: The club signed a 25 goals-a-season striker called Leon Constantine from Southend.
SPEEDWAY: Panthers chief Mick Horton splashed out the second biggest transfer fee in club history to sign Dryml brothers Ales and Lukas.
BOWLS: Catherine Popple retained her place in the England womens team for the British international series.
MARTIAL ARTS: Three members of the same family collected medals as Parkers Tang Soo Do club made their mark at the national championships in Nottingham. Father Mark Stockwell won the colour section belt, wife Samantha claimed bronze in the ladies colour competition and daughter Amy was third in the children's colour belt.
GOLF: Thorpe Wood's Simon Fitton was named as the PGA trainee golf professional rookie of the year.
JUNE
POSH: Bobby Gould signed a two-year deal to stay on as Posh head coach.
POOL: Leading city player Carly Smith was on top of the world after helping England regain the Ladies World Team Championships in Blackpool. She fell just short of making it a splendid double when losing out to world number one Sue Thompson in the quarter-finals of the singles.
GOLF: Adam Pike became the youngest ever winner of the Thorpe Wood Open Championship. Competitors have to be 18 to be eligible but the 16 year-old slipped through the net and duly won with a round of 72.
POOL: Little Kayleigh Burnham stunned the local pool circuit by becoming the youngest ever player to win a Wisbech League individual title - at the age of 10. She won the Division Two singles crown despite being shorter than her cue!
DARTS: Former Stamford publican Roland Scholten won the UK Championship. March thrower Kevin Painter went out in the quarter-finals and Dennis Harbour bit the dust in round two.
BOXING: City trained heavyweight sensation Matt Skelton closed in on a world title shot by bashing big-hitting Aussie Bob Mirovic at the York Hall, Bethnal Green.
ROWING: Local talent Natalie Bream claimed an honours treble at Peterborough City Rowing Club's annual Spring Regatta. In all the host club grabbed 12 wins.
POWERLIFTING: Whittlesey wonder Ted Sargeant landed a 15th consecutive national powerlifting title. The 44 year-old set new national records in the squat and dead lift on his way to gold in the 125kg category.
MOTORCYCLING: Arthur Mellows student Simon Field won the big Lincolnshire Junior Poacher Grasstrack Championship for the third success year.
TABLE TENNIS: One-man winning machine Chris Weston scooped an amazing 30 trophies after an unbelievable season in the Stamford & Rutland League.
SPEEDWAY: Panthers ace Lee Richardson fiished third in the British Grand Prix.
BOWLS: Whittlesey Manor bowls queens Emma Thurston, Pat Reynolds, Mary Malton and Wendy Lutkin became British Fours champions. Representing England, they defeated Scotland 17-7 in the final in Jersey.
ATHLETICS: Louise Hazel stormed to an Anglian Schools Championships hat-trick, winning the 100m, hurdles and long jump.
GOLF: Orton Meadows scooped a first-ever national title when taking the Gordon Forster Bowl at the finals of the National Association of Public Golf Courses tournament.
CRICKET: Market Deeping ended a 36-year jinx to finally samply some Jaidka Cup joy. Lee Peacock was the man-of-the-match in their 36-run final success over Khalsa.
