They took the honours 44-0 after running in eight tries.

Charlie Roberts, Andy Hoyles (2) and Ben Wicks crossed in the first half with one Roberts conversion making it 22-0 at the turnaround.

The second half continued as the first ended with Wisbech applying lots of pressure.

Drivng runs by Ben Chapman and Tom Paybody paved the way for the next score as scrum-half Andy Claydon fed Rudi Van de Merwe who straightened the line and gave a deft inside pass for Neil Hunt to score under the posts. Claydon assumed the kicking duties and converted to take the score to 29-0 with a quarter of the match to play.

This was followed by a well deserved try for James Comben who scored thanks to Tom Long joining the line from full-back.

Sub Phil Martell was rewarded for his hard work with the seventh try and then Wicks finished off proceedings with his second try.


NOTTS, Lincs and Derby Shield holders Spalding slipped up at the first hurdle, going down 25-24 at Sleaford, who nicked victory with a drop goal in the closing minutes.

Centre Jamie Anthony burst through the Sleaford defence to send speedy winger Andy Lal scuttling over for Spalding first try and the same player nipped in for the second, which was converted by Jim Williams.

Then just before the break Harry Brown forced his way over from a ineout to give Spalding a 17-10 half-time lead.

Sleaford soon levelled in the second half and then went 22-17 up with a pusover try.

Spalding, however, returned to the attack and were rewarded when substitute Bruno Figueiredo, forced his way over the line. Williams' conversion gave his side a two-point advantage with minutes remaining but then came that late drop-goal.


PETERBOROUGH'S East Midlands Cup quarter-final at home to Leighton Buzzard was postponed when Buzzard pulled out of the fixture late on Friday night. Borough are claiming the game.
