Last year Fox – along with clubmate Adam Neill – became the first Peterborough City Rowing Club members to win an event at the Royal Regatta when taking top spot in the Fawley Challenge Cup.
Fox had hoped to enter the Under 19 quad event again thi
s time around but following impressive recent performances at the Metropolitan Regatta, the 17 year-old has been forced to take a big step up in class.
That means the Jack Hunt pupil will be racing against older, more experienced rowers in the Prince of Wales Challenge Cup which makes his chances of winning again a decidedly tall order.
Fox said: "There is no doubt it's going to be a lot tougher for me this year as I am now in the intermediate category even though I am still eligible for the younger age group.
"But I am part of an excellent composite crew and we will be giving it our all to try and make it as far as we can. It may be too much for us to expect to win the event but at the very least it will give us some excellent experience for next year."
Fox will be joined in the coxless quad by Kings Ely's Lawrence Dugdale, Olly Lee from Agecroft Rowing Club and Matt Bedford from Marlow.
The oarsome foursome face Dutch crew Triton in tomorrow's first round and while it will doubtless be a tough race, Fox knows they do at least have form on their side.
"The crew I am part of is also the same as the one I row in for Great Britain and we beat Triton at the Munich International in May so we are confident of getting a win," he added.
"If we can get through that one we will be up against the favourites London Rowing Club and that crew have beaten us by a couple of lengths, but we have to believe we have a chance if it all goes right."
Fox will not be the only city rower going for glory at Henley this week however.
Fellow Peterborough City young guns Sam Tuck and Ed Rippon go head to head in the Fawley Cup tomorrow while clubmate Tom Chung and his crew have been given a bye to Friday's second round.
WHILE domestic issues may be taking centre stage at Henley this week, city rowers Sam Tuck and Fox also have international ambitions this summer.
Tuck (15) qualified to represent Great Britain in the Quadruple sculls at the Franco-British Under 16 Junior Regatta being held in Cardiff on July 12.
The Jack Hunt schoolboy comfortably won the trials held at Nottingham on Sunday with a Tideway Sculler's School crew. He hopes to match his success last year when he won gold in the event with a Peterborough City crew.
Fox meanwhile will be attempting to qualify for the international side next Thursday in the hope of competing at the World Championships later this summer.
