POSH have launched their summer signing spree with the capture of winger Tommy Rowe from Stockport County.
The 20 year-old signed a three-year deal yesterday. Posh have paid an undisclosed fee for the former Manchester United youngster after reaching agreement with the administrators currently running Stockport.

Rowe is highly-rated within the game and has impressed on his last two outings at London Road.

He scored the only goal of the game towards the end of the 2007-08 season and delivered an outstanding display in the unfamiliar position of left-back last season.

Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson insists Rowe won't necessarily be in direct competition with George Boyd for the team's left-wing position.

Ferguson, who returned to work yesterday after a spell on compassionate leave, said: "I certainly haven't bought Tommy to play left-back, but that doesn't mean he will be competing with George for a place in the team on the wing.

"We will need to be very flexible in the way we play to compete in the Championship and I could play George anywhere along the front four.

"Tommy does fit the profile of player we like at the club. He's young, he's hungry and he's very talented as he showed in his performances against us.

"He's been on our radar for a long time, but I met him for the first time yesterday and I liked him a lot. He will fit in with the other lads and that's important.

"We have paid a fee to Stockport's administrators and I'm looking forward to working with Tommy."

Rowe was at Manchester United as a young boy before joining Stockport's Academy set-up.

He made his debut for County's senior side in January 2007 and was an immediate hit, helping County to promotion alongside Posh from League Two.

After his winning goal at London Road, County boss Jim Gannon compared him very favourably to Boyd, describing him as the best winger in the division. He played 41 times last season and scored seven goals.

Posh are in the market for six new players this summer. Attempts to sign Tranmere midfielder Anthony Kay and free-scoring Bristol Rovers striker Rickie Lambert have already failed.

Posh director of football Barry Fry has rubbished newspaper stories suggesting that Coventry striker Robbie Simpson and Yeovil midfielder Lee Peltier are targets.

Posh have also circulated the availability of numerous players from last season's successful squad.

Ferguson had to scrap plans to meet with the squad personally, but those deemed surplus to requirements have now been told.

Posh are keen to shed about a third of their current thirty-plus squad.

Interesting to question about where Georgie Boyd plays if we do play Rowe on left wing.

Fergie mentioned he can play anywhere in the front 4, so is that as a 2nd striker or on the right wing? Will we be more conservative in matches next year and rotate
The Mac Attack and Boyd, just playing 2 out of the 3?
With Torres unwanted will Boyd step in more permanently on right?

What about Dominic Green, wasn't long ago he was talked up as a future premiership player, will he be out on loan next year? he's been knocked down the pecking order.

What a quality signing I remember him down here and thought that he stuck out from the rest. Posh going foward will be even more formidable with both of them switiching to either side.

People will say what about the defence then - well look at who has gone out, that will tell us all them have defenders coming in.

Fergie, Macanthony - legends.

Working only a couple of miles down the road from Stockport yesterday and talking to a couple of fans of County and Rowe. They say that we have a quality signing on our hands and are indeed gutted they have lost him.
And he is definately hungry for success and should do very well with the Posh - lets hope he fits in straight away.
