It's one of the city's oldest sporting events and has been running since 1948 - the year Peterborough City Rowing Club was formed.
- 1863: A committee was formed at a public meeting in the Wentworth Hotel (now demolished) and Peterborough Rowing Club was born.
- 1914: Last regatta was held in Peterborough before the First World War on August Bank Holiday weekend. Due to heavy losses in the war there would be no more regattas in Peterborough for more than 30 years.
- 1948: Committee organised a week-long regatta to generate funds for the sea cadets and raise local moral. This led to the creation of Peterborough City Rowing Club.
- 1950: The first boathouse was built on the Embankment opposite Black Bridge using recycled civil engineering site huts - officially opened on June 5.
- 1952: Current youth coach Bob Bridges was in the crew which took the first-ever win for the club at the Head of the Trent.
- 1954: Club won a Maiden Fours at the Derby Regatta with a crew including current club president Rolls Pollard.
- 1961: New boathouse was built on the Embankment - for the first time members had running water, hot showers and a club room.
- 1970: Club entered its first team into the Henley Royal Regatta.
- 1970: Mick Bates became the club's first international by representing England at the Home Counties International in Glasgow - winning his single sculls race.
- 1975: Peter Zeun represented Great Britain in the lightweight single sculls at the World Championships.
- 1981: Peterborough Development Corporation announced plans for another river crossing and the club decided to move to their current location after receiving compensation for their old clubhouse which had to be demolished to make way for a road.
- 1981-83: Club oversaw extensive negotiations to have a flood balancing lake shaped into a rowing course with the compensation money for the old clubhouse used to build new facilities alongside it - opened on October 1.
- 1984: First Peterborough Regatta to be held at the new venue attracts 119 entries.
- 1985-present: Club receives Lottery grant of £153,000 to upgrade the facilities at the clubhouse which now include a state-of-the-art gym for off-water training.
Regattas at the club now regularly attract well in excess of 500 entries from many of the top clubs in the country and often some from abroad.
