LOYAL Posh player Adam Newton is demanding an end to the uncertainty over his London Road future.
The long-serving full-back claims he has been 'messed about' by a club he has represented close to 250 times in a six-year career.
It has emerged that Newton has been placed on the transfer list after expressing interest in a move to League Two Br
entford.
But the player insists his agent only spoke to 'The Bees' after it became clear that Posh would be willing to let him go. Newton has just one year remaining on his contract in comparison to the majority of the regular first team who have deals stretching to 2011 and beyond.
Newton said: "I just want to be wanted, but I'm not sure that's the case at Posh any more. I've been getting varied signals all season.
"I was told I was being made available for transfer last January, but then I got back into the side and I was told I was staying. Then I lost my place in the side to Claude Gnakpa, but when he wouldn't sign his new contract I was back in favour.
"Now the manager is looking for a new right back so I'm not sure what my position is. I was made aware of Brentford's interest so my agent spoke to them, but that's as far as it's gone.
"No-one would want to leave Posh at a time when the club is clearly going places, but I might have to sacrifice that part of my career.
"I am not the sort of player to hang around to see out a contract. I want to be involved in the team so I hope it's all sorted out soon."
Newton made 32 appearances in the Posh promotion campaign last season. He is currently the only specialist right-back on the club's books following the release of Gnakpa.
Posh Director of Football Barry Fry added: "Brentford made an inquiry for Adam and he is quite keen on the move.
"Unfortunately they can't pay him what we pay him and we are not prepared to give him money to leave.
"However as Adam expressed an interest in leaving, the chairman and the manager think it is best that he goes on the transfer list as we don't want to keep unhappy players at the club.
"Adam has been a great servant to the club on and off the field, but sometimes in football you reach a crossroads and maybe it is time for us to part. It is up to Adam."
Posh are already seeking to unload six senior players including experienced winger Josh Low, one of the highest paid players at London Road, who has three years on his contract remaining.
Fry added: "We signed Josh from a Championship club on Championship wages.
"He received a long contract because the previous management team of Keith Alexander and Tommy Taylor wanted to build a team around him."
Posh paid Leicester in the region of £100,000 for Low in January 2007. He made just 15 League Two appearances for Posh last season.
