DEEPING A celebrated the first Peterborough and District League match to be played on their newly-resurfaced courts with a comfortable 8-1 win over the newly-formed City of Peterborough.
This match was the first match of the season for new captain Simon Bentley and also saw the return from long-term injury for local tennis hero John Timson.

The left-handed combination of Ben Monti and Bentley won their three matches 12-1, 9-4 and 9-4 with Monti showing his usual relaxed on-court style.

Clive Moody and James Westgate also won all three matches including a 13-0 whitewash in their first match. Timson and Edward Whitfield managed two wins (12-1 and 10-3) with Whitfield demonstrating some fine reactions at the net on many occasions.

Reigning champions Esporta also started in style as they beat their B team 9-0 while Stamford A beat Spalding A 6-3 in the other Division One match.

Stamford B and Perkins B maintained their 100 per cent records in Division Two as did JB Squad and Spalding B in Divisions Three and Four respectively.
