IT was a great weekend for local rugby in the English Clubs Championship with the top four local sides all chalking up victories.
While Borough were beating Luctonians in Midlands Division One, Spalding, Huntingdon and Peterborough Lions were also hitting a winning note.
The Lions made it three wins out of three in Midlands East Division Four (South) by cantering home 32-10 at Biggleswade.
Despite having Colin Thompson sent off for retaliation and Jason Monaghan sin-binned, the Lions were always in control.
New signing Jacques Steynberg from Wisbech made an instant impression with two tries and there was also a pair for Dan Thompson.
Rudi van der Meuwe played another strong game, Mark Carter enjoyed his 80 minutes in the front row, and Luke Richardson and Trompie Du Toit played strongly in the loose, putting in some big hits on the opposition players.
Heta Hanana worked his wing position well and Jason Ross was solid at at full-back.
The Lions can be pleased that they have stepped up a league and are coping well especially as they are still without star South African centres Jacques Vorster and Joe van den Berg.
Skipper Chris Platt led by example and pronounced himself well pleased with another win.
SPALDING made it two wins on the trot in Midlands East Division Three (North) with a 10-3 success at Ashbourne.
The game lacked fluency with Spalding missing influential players like Jim Bushell from the three-quarter line and Mark Haighton from the line out, but they were grateful to Jamie Anthony (try) and Jim Williamson (pen and conversion) for clinching two more precious points.
HUNTINGDON enjoyed their best victory so far this season in Midlands East Division Three (South) when defeating Bugbrooke 28-7 at home.
Stags put together a compelling display of forward power and sharp running to dispose of a Bugrooke side even more convincingly than the score suggests.
Tries came from Tom Beattie, Tom McCreadie, John McCreadie and Elliot Baldwin.
DEEPINGS took the honours in the top-of-the-table clash in Midlands East Division Six (South) winning 22-10 at St Neots through tries by Dave Robertson, Matthew Jackson, Brian Ward and Nobby Coupland.
BOROUGH Under 13s put in a superb performance in their first full game of 15-a-side rugby to beat Oundle 27-0 with tries by Harry Wells (2), Tom Slinger and Huw Edwards.
Though they didn't score, special praise should be given to Thomas Lewis and Damien Warby who both made fine contributions in unfamiliar positions. The other player that shone brightly in a team of stars was Harry Morley.
MARTIN Ball and Joe Gregory produced big performances for Borough Under 9s as they reached the semi-final of the County Cup at Cambridge.
BOROUGH Under 17s lost 39-24 to Northampton Old Scouts but there plenty of excellent individual performances with special mentions going to Andrew Brown in his first game at full-back and also to prop Derek Nel and second row Jason English.
AFTER three defeats, Borough extra thirds bounced back to beat Daventry thirds 31-3 with 68 year-old Benny Lee playing a starring role.
BOROUGH seconds stormed to a 50-0 win at Northampton Old Scouts seconds with Paul Booth slamming in a hat-trick of tries and outstanding performances coming from Jim Davies, Bruce Morley and man-of-the-match Matt Rain.
DEEPINGS seconds were the biggest weekend winners, bashing Bourne seconds 92-0 with Matthew Papworth running in a hat-trick of tries.
