HE didn't win many races but star of the show at the big Bank Holiday meeting at the Norfolk Arena in King's Lynn was Keith Saunders.
The Elm showman took part in the 'Vandemonium Revenge' in a gigantic Bedford TK Camper and thrilled the crowd by delivering some massive hits before the vehicle spectacularly collapsed towards the end of the day.

Saunders did actually register top five places in all of his races but entertaining the crowd was his main aim and he received rapturous applause when picking up a richly deserved merit award at the end of the meeting.

Keith's brother Mark Saunders was also in action in the vans - an American Chevrolet Ambulance was his choice of weapon - and following a fifth place in the first heat Mark lost his steering. But that didn't stop him coming out in the Demolition Derby to give a great display.

Also picking up a merit award was Peterborough race ace Darren 'Mr Humpty' Burkitt, who certainly put his LDV van about and was exceptionally entertaining.

Following his great display in the 'Vandemonium Revenge', Keith Saunders notched up another 95 points in the Banger Entertainer League which makes him firm favorite for the title.

As the season now enters its final third, he now holds a near 200-point lead over his nearest challengers.

There was also success for the local drivers in the lady TSR Banger class where Trudy Gowler from Wisbech notched up her now traditional heat victory which was then backed up with a sixth place finish in the final.

Leverington's Helen Licquorice got on the rostrum in the final with a runner-up spot to Danielle Hewitt from Norwich while Caroline Garner from Wisbech picked up a fifth place finish in a heat.

Bourne's Steve Lewis won the TSR Banger Gold Roof Final, in which no local drivers were placed.

Stock Car and Banger Racing returns to the Norfolk Arena on Saturday September 6 for the annual 'Big Banger Special' which features the Unlimited Banger Pre 70 Classic Car Meeting. Racing also comes from the Unlimited Bangers in their 'World of Shale' meeting with the 2L Bangers in action in the 'East Anglian Team Meeting' and the 2L Stock Cars completing the bill.
