DEEPING'S Julie Hollman was the first Briton on the track when the athletics programme got under way at the Beijing Olympics today.
Competing in the heptathlon, she was well below her best in the 100m hurdles – finishing fifth in heat three in 14.43, but she picked up in the high jump.

Her clearance of 1.77m was her second best leap of the year and placed her 14th in Pool B, leaving her 24th overall after two events with 1859 points.

Hollman's former Peterborough Athletic Club team-mate Kelly Sotherton set a personal best of 13.18 in the hurdles and cleared a season's best of 1.83m in the high jump to lie fifth with 2113 points.
