SUNDAY morning football without Jubilee North End is like roast beef minus the Yorkshire pudding.
The Bretton side have enjoyed their fair share of honours - especially in the past few seasons - during approximately 35 years as a standing dish on the local scene.

The side currently managed by Scott Stainsby (known as Bretton North End for the majority of their history) has gone from Mid-Anglia League stars to Peterborough Sunday Morning League success stories.

Many a top talent has graced their less-than-luscious Ringwood turf down the years, but the final curtain will come down on their illustrious history tonight.

Jubilee contest the Hereward Cup final against Netherton at Chestnut Avenue (6.15pm) and Stainsby hopes plenty of players from the past will turn out to cheer on the current crop as they attempt to finish with a flourish.

Stainsby said: “The lads are naturally disappointed that we are calling it a day, but everything has to end sometime.

“The possibility of one big last farewell game between the side of today and the Bretton North End lads of old is in the pipeline but this will be the last competitive match and we are all determined to go out on a high.

“It is sure to be a bit emotional because there is around 35 years of history and we want to provide one last thing to celebrate. It is great to have won the league title in our final season and adding a cup would be cracking.

“Taking the Premier Division title last season was the real highlight though as it was the first trophy the club had managed in years.”

Whether it be for some truly memorable derby battles against arch-rivals Lord Westwood, a succession of cracking contests against the mighty Royal Oak or the odd run-in with authority, life has never been dull during the North End years.

The many highs have been punctuated by the odd low and Stainsby only needed a split-second to recall the club’s biggest disappointment - losing in the final of

the Northants Sunday Cup.

Jubilee have long pined for the most prestigious piece of silverware in the area and they were only seconds away from getting their hands on it in the 2005 final when a goalkeeping error cost them dear.

Opponents Northampton St Margarets equalised and then went on to score a heartbreaking winner for the Jubilee lads.

Stainsby added: “The Northants Cup is the one thing we have always been desperate to win and never quite managed it.

“We got so close in the final and not seeing it out ranks as my biggest disappointment.”

Stainsby is undecided on his next footballing destination despite rumours being rife of a move to fellow Sunday side Racing 252.
