POINTS-SCORING performances for Wisbech teenager Liam McMillan are a bit like buses - you wait ages for one and then three come in a row.
The 18 year-old had never made the points in this year’s SEAT Supercopa series until the weekend - but he ended that sequence in the seventh round in Albacete, Spain and promptly did it again in rounds eight and nine.
In scorching conditions, McMi
llan kept a cool head in his Leon Cupra as he finished 12th, seventh and sixth in the three races.
He said: “I’m really pleased with my results, although I could have done better had it not been for qualifying.
“I got held up in traffic on my first two runs and set my best time on my third and final set of tyres right at the end of the session when the track was not great.
“Still, I was able to finish the race weekend with a sixth, which is my best Supercopa result so far. It’s all very encouraging and we’re making the progress we hoped for in this new series.”
With the hot Spanish summer seeing the Supercopa take a siesta until the end of September, but McMillan’s next race will be the SEAT Leon Eurocup meeting at Brands Hatch on July 26/27 – which is a support race to the FIA World Touring Car Championship.
That race takes place on the Grand Prix circuit and in preparation for it McMillan took his first look at the famous ex-Formula One arena in Kent on a recent track day – driving his mother’s Renault Clio road car!
He also raced at Brands Hatch recently on the shorter Indy Circuit when returning to these shores for a SAXMAX series race.
Despite driving a junior formula car he finished fourth after leading the race at one stage.
