THE sky is the limit for Gunthorpe Harriers according to boss Solomao Da Silva.
After watching his team beat Yaxley 2-0 in the first round of the Junior Alliance League Cup, Da Silva boldly predicted his team were good enough to go all the way and
lift the trophy.
First-half goals for Dominic Bevilacqua and Harrison Craig put Gunthorpe into the next round at the expense of a team which last season won all 14 of their league games under the Nene Valley Pumas name.
And beating last season's White Zone champions in their first-ever League Cup fixture has done nothing to effect Da Silva's boundless enthusiasm for his young side.
He said: "We were superb against Yaxley who are a very, very good team. As the Pumas they were unbeaten last season so for us to beat them has given us plenty of confidence.
"I am so pleased with the boys, last season we scored eight goals all season but the same players have now hit 16 goals in just five games. The transformation has been incredible as the boys have been putting what they are told in training into practice on the pitch which is wonderful to see.
"Of course there is a long way to go but I think we can win this cup if we keep playing like that. We are also top of our league at the moment so we are all happy - myself, the players and the wonderful parents who help support the team."
DEEPING returned to winning ways with a 3-0 win against Hampton Whites in the League Cup.
Just a week after losing their Red Zone top-of-the-table clash with the Red side of Hampton last weekend, Tim Barnes' side booked their place in the second round with two goals from Ryan Cotterell and one for Joe Hussey.
Barnes said: "This was a great allround team performance from back to front and all the boys should be proud of the effort they put in and we are now looking forward to the second round draw."
HAMPTON Reds meanwhile continued their unbeaten start to the season with an 8-0 win against Woodston Dynamo.
Despite leaving out top scorer Mason Wilson-Rhiney for the start of the match, the Reds were never in any danger of slipping up at Celta Road.
Four goals from midfielder Bradley Catton plus two for substitute Wilson-Rhiney and a brace for Mark Rayment saw David Arnold and Mark Sansby's side safetly through.
Sansby said: "I have nothing but praise for this group of players who seem to be improving week by week.
"They have continued their perfect start to the season with a cracking performance at Woodston.
"And while the goalscorers deserve a lot of credit, Liam Hatfield and James Ward were also excellent in defence."
