Green arrives but Akinde may get away

POSH snapped up one hot prospect yesterday, but look likely to miss out on another today (August 28).
Left winger Dominic Green has completed a move to London Road from League Two side Dagenham & Redbridge for an undisclosed fee, but the club's plan to unveil Ebbsfleet United striker John Akinde as a Posh player today were dashed when Championship outfit Bristol City declared an interest.
Posh have not given up hope of capturing the 20 year-old, especially as City are understood to have made a lower bid. Posh boss Darren Ferguson was also at pains to point out that the arrival of a left winger would not mean the departure of prize asset George Boyd before the end of the August transfer window.
Darren Ferguson said: "I spoke to John and his father last night to try and persuade them to sign for us so we will have to wait and see what happens.
"I'd be disappointed to lose out on John as we've been after him for a very long time. He would be a certainty to score goals at our level, but it was inevitable other clubs would be interested in him.
"Dominic is an exciting player. I was tipped off about him last season and he might not have played many games in his career, but he is definitely an exciting prospect.
"It may seem like we have an overload of wingers, but it's not really as I intend to use Chris Whelpdale as a full-back this season.
"And Dominic's arrival certainly does not mean we are going to lose any of our star players."
Green has started just four games in his Dagenham career and scored his one goal on the opening day of this season.
Posh Director of Football Barry Fry insisted that reports from BBC Essex claiming the fee involved is £150,000 are wide of the mark – chairman Darragh MacAnthony suggested that the fee is higher than the £150,000 paid to Wycombe for Sergio Torres earlier this summer.
Green was thought to be on his way to League One rivals Huddersfield – he watched them lose to MK Dons on Saturday – until Posh intervened.
Akinde has scored 10 goals in his Ebbsfleet career and Posh have had several bids for the player turned down in the past.
According to reports in Kent, a bid of £140,000 from an unnamed club has been accepted by Ebbsfleet, but the decision on whether to sell or not was going to be put to an internet vote of the club's fans!
Akinde was understood to be talking to Bristol City manager Gary Johnson about a move to Ashton Gate today.
Posh striker Liam Hatch has joined League Two side Darlington on loan until January 4, while winger Josh Low was still negotiating with League One side Cheltenham about a move to Whaddon Road.
Posh goalkeeper Joe Lewis has been called up to the England Under 21 squad to face Portugal at Wembley in a European Championship qualifier on Friday, September 5.
Lewis will be available to face Bristol Rovers in a League Two fixture at London Road the following day.
Posh skipper Craig Morgan will miss that game after receiving his call up to the Wales senior squad for World Cup qualifying matches against Azerbaijan and Russia.
