GEORGE Boyd overcame a domestic accident to turn in another man-of-the-match display as Posh beat title favourites Leeds at London Road.
Boyd suffered facial cuts after falling down the stairs at home on Monday. He was forced to wear a bandage on his head during the match, but it didn't stop him scoring one and creating the other goal for Craig Mackail-Smith in a 2-0 win.

Boyd said: "I had a thirst in the middle of the night on Monday, but as I was on the way down the stairs I tripped and cut my head and face.

"I was back in training the next day so it was nothing serious. It was embarrassing, but I didn't get much stick from the lads until I had to put my bandage on!"

Boyd's performance as a support striker for Mackail-Smith drew great praise from his manager as well as the club's fans, but the man himself preferred to talk about the team.

Boyd added: "We sent a real statement out to the rest of League One with this win. To beat a team like Leeds at our place is a real boost for everyone and confirms to everyone else that we are serious about getting promoted from this division.

"The confidence we will get from this win and from the one at Mk Dons will hopefully stay with us for the rest of the season.

"I'm enjoying my football, but that's because the team is playing well. We have started to get the results our performances deserve now."

Posh manager Darren Ferguson is Boyd's biggest fan. He has no doubts where the player will end up, but he is confident he won't get there this season.

Ferguson said: "Everyone knows how good I believe George is. He will play in the Premier League one day, but we won't sell him in January.

"He is on top of his game right now and he's a pleasure to manage and a delight to watch.

"George will get a lot of the plaudits again, but I was delighted with the way we defended as well. To keep a clean sheet against a team like Leeds is a great achievement."

Still up hold, as much ability as he has, the lack of real pace will hold him back...

boyd's close control more than makes up for his "lack of real pace". if theres a better player in league 1 i havnt seen or heard of him yet.

Chris Waddell had the same lack of pace / good close ball control, never held him back. Matt Le Tiss was much the same.

Sorry, but that proves how little we know at POSH...

Waddle and Le Tiss retired long before the game became a game of atheletes....

Stop looking at the game through rose tinted glasses guys!!

Well if this lack of pace does hold him back and keeps him a Posh player for the next few years rather than months I thank our lucky stars.

Sadly George won't be with us for long, so we will just have to enjoy his skills while we can.

Beckham wasn't the fastest in the world, but his skill would create the yard of space required to cross or shoot.

If someone from the premiership takes a chance on George, they will bag a real gem.
