A rampant second-half display ensured Posh got off the mark in League One this afternoon.
Aaron Mclean claimed the goal he craved against the team that released him five years ago four minutes after the break before Craig Mackail-Smith bagged his second of the game on 67 minutess.

Mclean's turn and shot from the edge of the box was a wonderful moment for the former Orient player, but he was just as pleased when Mackail-Smith tapped in from close range after fine work from George Boyd.

Mackail-Smith had opened the scoring two minutes before the break with a superb individual effort which involved a dash from the half-way line and a superb curled finish.

Posh could have had more goals as Mclean missed a tap-in and Mackail-Smith side-footed wide from eight yards.

Mackail-Smith had spurned three half chances in the opening 10 minutes before visitors Leyton Orient fought back.

Wayne Gray hooked their best opportunity wide on the half hour after muscling his way past Chris Westwood.

Posh recalled Shane Blackett at left-back. He replaced Tom Willians who dropped to the substitutes' bench in the only change from the team defeated at Bristol City in the Carling Cup on Tuesday.

Winger Chris Whelpdale recovered from a bout of sickness to take his place on the bench for the visit of Leyton Orient.

Teams:
Posh: Joe Lewis, Russell Martin, Shane Blackett, Craig Morgan, Chris Westwood, Charlie Lee, Dean Keates, Sergio Torres, George Boyd, Aaron Mclean, Craig Mackail-Smith.
Subs: Scott Rendell, Micah Hyde, Chris Whelpdale, Tom Williams, Mark Tyler.

Leyton Orient: Glenn Morris, Stephen Purches, Danny Granville, Tamika Mkandawire, Brian Saah, John Melligan, Adam Chambers, Wayne Gray, Sean Thornton, Adam Boyd, Jason Demetriou.
Subs: Alton Thelwell, Simon Dawkins, Paul Terry, Aiden Palmer, Ryan Jarvis.

Referee: Mike Thorpe.

What a second half performance, well played Posh. The whole of Peterborough can hear the sound of Peter Borian scuttling off to take position under the stone from whence he came. Lets have more of it Posh.

Excellent all round peformance with George Boyd getting my "Man of the Match" award for his runs and efforts down the wing. He is a special player.

excellent match, Boyd was brilliant. Just think what we could have done if we'd had a midfield

Awesome game against a team who came to attack.Repeat this performance and take more of our chances as it should have been at least 8-2.Clean sheet important.
More games like this and i can see 8000+ gates and boo boys kept quiet.

Dont be silly, we can win 8-0 every week and have promotion sewn up by February and certain sections of our 'support' will still find something to moan about.

It was a joy to watch yesterday, Boyd and CMS in particular.

what a great alround team performance, well done lads it was poetry in motion to watch, solid & confident backline russell martin looks great on the overlap & he & torres look a great aquisition to the squad, good decision by fergie to take blackett off he was superb at left back but was obviously struggling with a calf injury & risking serious injury if left on ? the midfield was the key though very often heavily out numbered by orients formation of flooding midfield but still gave a good account of themselves . boyd was pure class, cms & macleans workrate must give defenders nightmares... BRILLIANT..JUST BRILLIANT.. tricky dicky w/sey

With any luck Fergie will keep their feet firmly on the ground and not allow the complacency which creeped in from time to time last season to rear its ugly head again so we can avoid having matches like Macclesfield h and Mansfield a.
