Crowd congestion caused a fifteen minute delay at London Road, but there was to be no Cup upset for Posh against Premier League West Brom.
Too many people trying to get into the ground meant the kick-off was delayed until 8pm.
Jay Simpson, in only his second game while on loan from Arsenal, puts West Brom ahead after 18 minutes with a shot into the right-hand corner from outside the area.
Simpson had the been the subject of loan interest by Posh themselves in late 2008
before he made the move to West Brom.
In the 37th minute Paul Robinson scored the Baggies second after Posh fail to clear a free-kick.
West Brom had more chances while Charlie Lee came closest to scoring for Posh.
