Posh were most unfortunate losers in their Carling Cup first round tie at Championship side Bristol City.
City scored from two close range headers in the second-half after George Boyd had fired Posh in front on 17 minutes.

Steve Brooker's close range header six minutes from time sealed the win after Louis Carey had equalised nine minutes after the break.

Boyd fired home with his weaker right foot from 10 yards after a superb four man-move down the right hand side involving Craig Mackail-Smith, Russell Martin and Aaron Mclean as well as the scorer.

Posh played some lovely stuff in the first half with Boyd and Mackail-Smith in outstanding form.

Mclean missed a decent header opportunity, while City were restricted to long shots from Ivan Sproule and Cole Skkuse which were held comfortably by Joe Lewis.

The first-half saw 10 minutes of injury time after City full-back Christian Ribiero suffered a serious knee injury.

Martin was a shock selection after agreeing to play despite aggravating an ankle injury in Saturday's 1-0 League One defeat at Southend.

Chris Whelpdale was due to deputise, but he failed to recover from a bug forcing manager Darren Ferguson to turn back to Martin.

Sergio Torres was handed his full debut on the right wing in place of Whelpdale.

City rested a couple of first choice defenders. Teams in the Carling Cup this season are able to nominate seven substitites with three allowed to come on.

I am waiting for it. Fergies fault?, Should be beating teams like this? Players not good enough? Season of doom!?!

Well done lads, sounds like you went close!

After seeing the goals we have conceeded so far this season there is certainly one area of concern, set plays........we are struggling to defend them....!

I have a bad feeling our lack of size maybe an issue..

Unlucky again lads. Roll on Saturday when we'll show the rest of league 1 that we are a force to be reckoned with. Come on Posh!

Well played Posh, but there is nothing with those who come second ! Height could be a serious issue in defence, as is already been demonstrated.
UP the POSH

were we really that bothered about the carling cup anyway ? weve got a realistic chance of winning the jp trophy this year, the fa cup is much more glamourous,& if pushing for promotion is no1 priority then it would probably have got in the way anyway ! sounds like the team had a right good go at it anyway so well done lads ? lets get a home game under our belts & hopefully get 3 points on the board, maybe that would quieten the doom & gloom brigade & give fergie & his troops a break from this unecessary pressure?.. tricky dicky w/sey
