BELVEDERE'S Fiona Richardson claimed a hat-trick of county titles at the Northants Bowling Federation's men's and women's finals at Peterborough & District yesterday.
She won the four-bowl singles and teamed up with Jeannie Griffiths and Linda Darani to win both the rinks titles.

The one title that got away was the pairs with Jessica Phillips, the honour going to host club pair Helen Crow and Janet Duffy, a fitting reward for the latter's hard-working role as competition secretary.

Deeping's Pearl O'Brien had the chance of five titles when she embarked on her arduous schedule, but in the end had to be content with a senior double, beating Joan Butcher (Whittlesey Town) in the singles and partnering Pat Collicott to victory in the pairs against defending champions Pat Bussey and Sheila Craig (Conservatives).

Men's deputy president Graham Agger also claimed a title double for the Yaxley club that enjoyed a successful day with four titles - a feat they shared with Belvedere - although team wise they lost the club championship to title holders Parkway A.

He teamed up with Ann Hadley and Glyn Starr to win the mixed rinks against West Ward's Liz and Ross Barr with Harry Thompson and joined Fred Browning and John Nicholls to deny Parkway's Dick Noble and Nigel Eagle a rinks double, having earlier successfully defended the two-bowl title with Nick Wilkie at lead at the expense of Perkins' Ken Smith, Neil Wright and Mick Linnell.

There was a double for the Browning household, with Kath winning the secretaries singles, while on an adjoining rink Margaret Linnell made up for husband Mick's disappointment by helping Roger Martin claim the mixed pairs crown against Ann and Peter White (Langtoft Pearl).

There was double disappointment, though, for Thompson, who was earlier pipped 21-20 by Yaxley's Chris Wheeler in the two-bowl singles.

Wendy Lutkin and Fred Addy retained the Champion of Champions singles and secretaries singles respectively, while Belvedere's Malcolm Cullingworth and Trevor Collins lifted the pairs for the third time in five years to make up for Collins' disappointment in losing the four-bowl singles to Jon Corby, who provided Empingham with their first county title.

There were three walkovers in the men's events, with young Tristan Morton conceding both the junior singles and the Champion of Champions singles - James Harford (Parkway) and Peter White (Langtoft Pearl) the beneficiaries respectively - having qualified on Friday for the national singles at Worthing that clashes with the Federation finals at Skegness.

Crowland's Jack Taylor withdrew from the veterans singles owing to an arm injury, therefore handing the title to Joe Martin (Perkins).
