Ferguson: Derby match will be ideal

DARREN Ferguson believes Lincoln will be ideal opposition for Posh on Saturday.
The Posh manager holds 'The Imps' in high regard, but he's confident that a local derby in front of a large, passionate crowd against a side committed to attack will suit Posh down to the ground.

Posh have scored just three goals in their last five home games, all against teams struggling near the foot of the table and playing very defensively, so Ferguson is looking forward to a more open contest.

Ferguson said: "I can't imagine Lincoln will bring 1,500 fans with them and play for a draw. They're the only team we have left to play who can't really go up or down, but as it's a derby match I expect them to have a real go at us.

"They have some good players, but an attacking approach should suit us. We have had to be very patient at home lately, but there might be a bit more space for us this week.

"I'm really looking forward to the game and so are the players. It should be a decent football match between two good sides."

Posh are unlikely to risk striker Craig Mackail-Smith. He picked up a hamstring problem in the Good Friday draw at MK Dons and with Liam Hatch also struggling with a back injury, Scott Rendell will get another chance to start.

Adam Newton or Josh Low will replace suspended right-back Claude Gnakpa, but centre-back Craig Morgan should be okay despite playing 90 minutes in Wales' 2-0 win in Luxembourg.

Morgan collected a booking in that game and Posh will be keen he avoids a caution at the weekend. Morgan is currently on nine bookings and will receive an instant two-game ban if he offends again – all cautions are wiped off after the matches played on April 12.

Lincoln will be without club captain and key midfielder Scott Kerr. Kerr was sent off in 'The Imps' win on Monday and the club have decided against an appeal.

Highly-rated Lee Frecklington, who Posh have tried to sign twice in the past, could return after a six-week absence. He started a reserve team match at Leeds yesterday.

Posh right-back Scott Mitchell has joined Conference promotion chasers Stevenage on loan until the end of the season.

The move could be made permanent in the summer as Mitchell has been told he does not figure in the Posh plans for next season.

Mitchell joined Posh on a short term contract in January after leaving Scottish club Livingston. He started just one game for the club.

POSH have apologised after an administrative error meant they failed to attend a planned function at the John Lewis store in association with the Sue Ryder foundation on Tuesday.

Newton playing instead of Claude does not inspire me. Given the fact we are almost assured of promotion now I would have like to seen us make a move on todays transfer deadline day and sign a couple of players who can play in defence and midfield. With suspensions and injurys always prominent we need to cover everything at this delicate stage. Promotion for me has been achieved but its the title I want as a Posh fan now more than anything. Assuring we have a squad capable is important, at this time I don't believe we have considering imminent suspensions and possible injury's.

MK Dons are the best side in the league, end of. Fair play to them when they win the double. They deserve it.

Two more wins and we are kissing goodbye to League Two!!
