DAVE Langlands confirmed his status as the 'King of Helpston' when he turned in the fastest time on Fenland Clarion's Bluebell circuit for four seasons.
Langlands underlined his current form with a sizzling 22.08 and even though it was an average of more than 27mph for the 10-mile route, it was still some way off his club record 21.29, which he established in 2001.
Second on the night was Farcet f
astman Simon Pitchford with a tidy 22.54, while Stamford electrician Ian Waddilove was a further 45 seconds off the pace in third spot. Another stunning ride came from the youngest rider, in the form of 13 year-old Sam Widdessy with an excellent ride in 33.20.
Langlands' superb performance won him the handicap award too and the 18 points earned moved him up to sixth place in the overall handicap standings.

FENLAND Clarion hosted two time trial events at Sawtry at the weekend with a 10-mile event on Saturday and a 25-mile competition the following day.
Saturday's race was won by Paul Davis from St Ives in 22.51 but there was plenty for the host club to cheer as sisters-in-law Lyndsay Clarke and Jayne Clarke were first and second females in 26.21 and 27.29 respectively.
Malc Jacklin led the men's challenge in fourth while Peterborough Cycling Club's John French finished eighth.
Other local results (Fenland Clarion unless specified): 4 Malc Jacklin 23.17; 8 John French (P'boro CC) 23.41; 9 Ian Waddilove 23.57; 12 Steve Clarke 24.10; 15 Sean Beard 24.32; 18 Paul Asplin 24.37; 19 Simon Jacklin 24.38; 20 Simon Pidduck 24.56; 24 Ian Clarke 25.24; 27 Mike Barnsdale 25.45; 30 Dave Saunders 26.51; 31 Matt Clarkson (P'boro CC) 26.59; 32 Bill Law 27.06; 35 Jim Fell 27.56; 38 Andy Rawlins 28.24; 39 Keith Kinsey 28.37; 42 Brian Charmley 29.16; 45 Birgit Scott 29.46; 46 Sharon Smith 29.51; 50 Bradley Crick 32.12.
Sunday's race was won in an amazing 56.27 by James Coleman of Cherry Valley road team. It would have been interesting to see if Fenland's Dave Langlands would have been able to compete with him but problems with a wheel meant he was well off the pace this time. Clubmate Paul Lilley did well to finish third in 59.39.
Lyndsay Clarke was again in good form to finish second in 69.17 with Georgina Jennings third in 73.38.
