IT was a memorable weekend for Peterborough Rugby Club's junior teams as three sides – the Under 11s, Under 12s and Under 16s – reached Cambridgeshire county cup finals at Shelford.
And the Under 12s were crowned joint winners with Cambridge in their age group after the final finished 0-0 after extra time.

Borough's dynamic forward play ensured that they were always playing on the front foot, dominating play and territory in
every game. And although the conditions did not support an open game, the backs continually stretched the opposition.

With a solid defence, conceding only one try in six games, Borough were always in the ascendancy throughout the tournament, including the final, but couldn't quite make that final breakthrough to become outright winners.

The successful Borough squad was: Cameron Newton, Daniel Grant, Daniel Nunn, Daniel Sproul, Danny Parker, Dean Elmore, Ferdinand Turral, George Warren, Jake Eglen, James McGeown, Joe Sheffield, Joshua Wilkin, Kyle Robbins-Wilkins, Marcus Widdes, Natahn Hagerty, Oliver Baldry, Robert Elmore, Ryan Turner.

Borough Under 11s came up against Shelford in the final for the second year running and after a nail-biting battle, with both sides solid in defence and adventurous in attack, it was Shelford who edged it 10-5.

Borough's head coach Eamonn Murphy said: "Borough had much to be proud of and gave everything that was asked of them."

Borough Under 16s were also beaten by Shelford after reaching the final for the first time.

The tournament started badly for Borough as lock Will Dyer broke his leg 53 seconds into their first game against St Neots. But, after a long delay, they recovered to win 10-0.

Richie Warlow then scored the tries that helped see off Ely 5-0 and Shelford 5-3, and then an Andy Hinch touchdown was enough to see off Saffron Walden in the semi-final.

But in another close game it was Shelford who nicked the final.
