YAXLEY manager Gary Clipston has toasted an unexpected star signing.
Clipston revealed ace striker Mark Paul has rejoined the club for next season after a spell away from Leading Drove during the previous campaign.

Paul left the club to join Ridgeons League side Ely City during the season, but was back for their recent Hunts Senior Cup final success and has made his return permanent.

Clipston said: "Mark has told me he regrets going to Ely and he wants to be back at Yaxley. That is great news for the club because he is one of the best strikers around and a regular source of goals.

"Virtually every team at our level would be thrilled to have Mark in their squad and I am no different."

Paul joins young prodigy Sam Makansi in the Yaxley attacking ranks but Clipston is still keen to recruit two more strikers.

He added: "Sam is an exciting young prospect who scored at all levels for the club last season – Under 18, reserve and first team.

"He is one of a number of young lads who we brought through and that is very important for a club like ours.

"We were able to enjoy what became a decent season thanks to the county cup win and we were not paying out a lot of money in the process.

"With him and Mark already at the club we have two good forwards and I would like to get a couple more in as well."

Clipston is also hoping to tempt former Blackstones coach Andy Mills to join his Yaxley managerial team.
