TOM Chung and James Fox both added the title of national champions to their outstanding rowing CVs over the weekend.
The Jack Hunt schoolboys and Peterborough City Rowing Club members won gold medals in open junior sculling events at the National Championships in Nottingham. Chung was successful in the J15 (open to boys aged 15 and under) category while Fox powered home in the J16 class.

Chung dominated his heat and semi-final to start the 2000m final as a hot favourite and he didn't disappoint leading from start to finish to win by a phenomenal margin of over 30 seconds in a time of 9.06.23.

Fox was also a hot favourite in his race and although he won by a smaller margin than his schoolmate, he was never seriously threatened in either his semi-final or final.

The reigning Evening Telegraph Junior Sportsman of the Year won his semi-final by 14 seconds and the final by a comfortable six seconds in a time of 7.59.12, again over the 2000m course.

Fox failed to make it a double gold when competing in the under 16 quad event alongside City team-mates Sam Tuck, Ollie Salonna and Ed Rippon.

The crew were unfortunate to receive a lane in the final which was exposed to the strong winds. They rowed well, but finished third behind quads from Marlow an York, albeit just 10 seconds off a gold medal.

Philippa Neill in the J16 single sculls and Holly Barr and Anna Sidebottom in the J14 double sculls also took part in the National Championships, but failed to make it through the heats.

Fox had replaced Chung in that crew forcing the others to row a year above their age group. Chung had wanted to concentrate on his single scull event.

It's been non-stop success for City's junior section this summer. Fox and Adam Neill became the first rowers from the club to win an event at the Henley Regatta when part of a composite quad crew alongside rowers from Nottingham and Leicester.

Chung, Salonna, Tuck and Rippon were also gold medallists at this year's National Schools Championships, while Fox, Chung, Salonna, Tuck and Rippon made winning GB international debuts in France.

ADAM Neill collected a brilliant silver medal in the European Rowing Championships in Cork, Ireland, at the weekend.

Neill, a King's School pupil, competed in the single sculls and after winning his heat comfortably he was just pipped to a gold medal by a Swiss sculler.

Neill was in the leading three all the way and just edged out a Dutch rower into third place.

Neill said: "I am thrilled to win silver at a major international regatta and it's a great way to round off my best season so far. I've been involved in GB trials throughout the year and I found out two weeks ago that I had been selected for the team.
