Boys in Blue cause the Parkway crash

PARKWAY EAGLES 0 BOURNE BLUE 5 (Under 9 League Cup).
FIVE-STAR Bourne missed a second-half penalty but still ran out comfortable winners against Parkway in their first-ever League Cup tie.
Goals for Josh Kaufman, Josh Lavery, a bullet header for Ben Robinson and a lofted free-kick from Dan Osborne in the first half meant Brad Danahar's spot-kick miss after the restart proved anything but costly.
And Danahar was presented with the perfect opportunity to make up for his earlier error when Archie Dawson laid on Bourne's fifth for the striker to complete the win from close in.
But despite the lop-sided scoreline, the Lincolnshire lads certainly didn't have things all their own way and were forced to absorb plenty of Parkway pressure before easing ahead in this well-contested cup tie.
Manager Jonathan Kaufman said: "We ran out comfortable winners in our first ever cup tie but it could have been very different in the early exchanges, however, with Josh, Brad and my keeper Rhys Dickinson all called upon to make decisive early interventions.
"But once we got the first goal, we were able to open Parkway up a bit more and we were 4-0 up by half-time which allowed us to make a few changes.
"From then on we were in control of the game and overall I am delighted with the boys and would like to thank our sponsors Julie's Cafe, Manor Roofing, Davis Dawson Carpets and Martin Bradley Body Specialists - bring on the next round!"
Sadly for Parkway there will be no eager anticipation of the second round draw.
Despite a battling performance a lack of sharpness in front of goal ultimately cost Kieran King's side dear.
Seaching for only their second win of the season against Bourne, Parkway failed to turn decent pressure into goals but King is confident his young side will not take too long to find their shooting boots.
He said: "I thought we played very well against Bourne, but the big difference was they took their chances and we didn't despite breaking through their defence on a number of occasions.
"But they are only young lads and they have plenty of time to learn the importance of finishing off their moves.
"We will be working hard in training on ways to improve it and I am sure they will be able to improve as the season goes on.
"It is a shame we are out of the cup already but we can now at least concentrate on the league and try to pick up a few more points over the next fews weeks.
"All the boys are really enjoying their football at the moment and despite being beaten we cannot wait for our next game."
