YOUNG goalkeepers at The Kevin Oldham Goalkeeping Development Centre were put through their paces recently by England Under 19 and Birmingham City goalkeeping coach, Dave Watson.
During his playing days Watson kept goal for Barnsley in the Premiership, but has since developed his coaching career with Northampton Town and Nottingham Forest before ending up back in the Premiership last season with Birmingham City.

The Kevin Oldham Goalkeeping Centre has been running successfully for several years and is based at the Peterborough Town Sports Club on Bretton Gate every Friday evening.

There are currently 30 boys registered with ages ranging from eight to 17.

Over the years many of the goalkeepers have been picked up by professional clubs for their academies and centres of excellence and last year, two 16 year-olds were given two-year scholarships with Conference level clubs.

Oldham said "I was delighted when Dave Watson agreed to come and visit our centre.

"He has been my mentor for the last few years and was a great help to me in achieving my coaching qualifications. He was great with the boys and put in a solid stint doing an hour-long session with each of our three age groups.

"The boys were a credit and Dave was greatly impressed with their attitude and commitment as well as their obvious ability.

"We constantly strive to maintain and improve standards and have recently been supported by Chroma Sports with the provision of equipment.

"The fact that someone of Dave's status in the game is prepared to come and give his time gives me a great deal of satisfaction about what we are achieving."
