DAN Tinkler made a surprise comeback as Peterborough Athletic Club won their East Anglian League fixture at King's Lynn.
Just a week earlier, Tinkler had revealed he didn't plan to compete this year following an ankle operation last summer but he made his first appearance of 2009 and won the B-string javelin – completing a double with Lithuanian ace Tomas Saunorius – as well as taking second in the shot and discus.
Teenagers Jamie Irons and Adam Smith also produced a double in the senior men's age group, in the high jump, but it was the younger age groups where PAC impressed the most.
The Under 17 men won their age group with a double in the 400m where Michael Frankland, who took half-a-second off his 200m personal best (PB), was joined by Ashley Watson who made it two wins in as many outings over the distance. The sprinter had won on his 400m debut in the Eastern Young Athletes League earlier this month.
Frankland also linked up with Adam Kimber for a double in the javelin while the latter took the shot with good support from Zoheb Arif. Jack Jones chalked up three wins as PAC won the age group with a tally more than double their nearest rivals.
Jones' younger brother Charlie was among the winners as the Under 13 boys also came out on top, with Matthew Miles taking the long jump in a PB.
English Under 15 indoor long jump champion Joel Grenfell (below) improved his PB to 6.14m and also took the 100m but it was not enough for PAC to win the age group.
Tom Holyoake won the 400m and 800m and there were A and B-string doubles from Kieran Warrener and Kieran Jack (1500m), Ed Crisp and Toby Dewar (shot) and Daniel Hauck and Ed Fitch (javelin) but Ipswich took the honours.
PAC also won two of the three female age groups, taking the Under 13s by 41 points with Ebony Osle recording two sprints wins and breaking 14 seconds for the first time in the 100m and producing her first 'sub 30' in the 200m.
Her 100m time was 0.7 seconds quicker than her previous best while she took more than a second off her 200m time. Ella De Lucis and Katharine Amps teamed up for a sprint hurdles double, both girls improving their PBs.
The Under 15 girls also won with Simi Pam breaking 10m for the first time when winning the shot and Amber Kenny completing an A and B-string double. The versatile Georgia Woods recorded three wins, equalling her season's best in the high jump where Jay Bingham took the B-string.
The senior women had to settle for second place despite a sprint double from teenager Sharna Emanuel, including a PB in the 100m. Laura Arnold and Jenny Cade set PBs in the 300m and shot respectively while Stacy McGivern (high jump) and Jess Bull (javelin) recorded season's best.
