HAMPTON runner Neil Addison returned from a three-injury month lay-off to finish second in Sunday's Eye 10k.
Addison has a best time of 30.18 for the distance but was not concerned about being four minutes slower as he followed home Ely’s Alex Tate who went one better than his second place of two years ago.
“I’m not too disappointed with the time, that’s just where I cam at the moment,” said Addison.
“I just wanted to get a race in to find where I’m at after my injury. I had one week’s training at the beginning of January and was then out until mid-April, and I then picked up another injury so I hadn’t got much background behind me going into the race.
“I went with the pace but after four or five kilometres I was a bit tired because it was a lot faster than the pace I’d been running in training.
“I’ve been running seven-minute miling so when you return to racing and doing 5.30 miles it’s a step up, but I enjoyed racing again.
“I now just want to build up my training, avoid further injuries and do a few local races.”
Nick Grimer finished third to lead Nene Valley Harriers to success in the open team and Cambs Road League events.
Grimer was well supported with last year’s runner-up Sean Beard in fourth, veteran Chris Clarke in seventh and youngster Aaron Shepherd placing 11th.

Nene Valley provided five of the first 10 in the Fun Run but it was Peterborough Athletic Club who supplied the winner.
Luke Phillips, fourth in the Under 17 400m at the Cambridgeshire Championships the previous day, won the race by two seconds from Callum Ramsey.
n Huntingdon athlete Neil Speaight won the 1500m A race at the Watford Open Meeting, clocking 3.45.98.
