MARTIN Adams is determined to launch an exciting new era for darts in winning style.
Market Deeping legend ‘Wolfie’ lines up in the Welsh Open on Sunday - the first of five tournaments that form the new International Grand Prix Series in the British Darts Organisation (BDO) side of the sport.

The closing stages of all five events will be screened live on Setanta Sports and Adams is bidding to become the star of the show on both the oche and the small screen.

He said: “The television exposure is excellent for the game and makes it a hell of a lot of easier for players to attract sponsorship.

“It ticks one of the major boxes and it is also excellent for the armchair fans who can tune in and watch the action unfold.

“The link-up with Setanta is tremendous because it has helped create five excellent tournaments in a smashing new series. Hopefully I can perform well and challenge for some victories.”

Adams makes a rare appearance in the Welsh Open after having missed the event in recent years due to a clash with a prestigious overseas competition.

But all roads lead to Pontins at Prestatyn this weekend and Wolfie hopes to be leaving the principality with money in the bank and plenty of Grand Prix points to his name.

As well as healthy prize pools for each tournaments there is an added £32,000 windfall for the players who perform best over all five events.

Adams - who lifted the Lakeside World Championship at the beginning of 2007 - added: “I have not actually taken part in the Welsh Open for a good number of years.
