"Following the past weeks of uncertainty and unrest in regard to my position with the football club I would like to make the following statement.
I have asked for my transfer request to be withdrawn and have agreed to sign a new 4 year contract with Peterborough United. I have purposely not commented during this troubled period as my passion and desire for the football club, the Chairman, the Manager, my team-mates and the supporters has never changed.
The purpose of this statement is to explain to the fans of Peterborough United Football Club the reasons behind my transfer request and to explain it has nothing to do with greed or me not being happy at the club. A small percentage of negative publicity is having an adverse effect on my family and this is, another reason for me wanting to release this statement.
I saw that submitting a transfer request would enable me to fulfill a lifelong dream of playing in the Premier League within a short period of time. I will always play with 110% commitment and will without doubt continue to do so for the fans, club, and my family and team mates, who have been great from the moment I made my debut.
Since joining the club I have worked tirelessly to help promote and sustain the good work that Peterborough United FC has and continues to do within the local community. I have enjoyed this immensely and have made many friends whilst doing this.
I am very lucky to be a professional footballer and you never know how long this great career will last. When Wolves made an offer for me I believed at the time this would help me reach my goal of playing at the highest level and to help me to become financially secure, enabling me to look after my family better. There were no other hidden motives in handing in a written transfer request. I discussed this with my family and my agent and we agreed this was the best path for us at that time.
I am not aware of anybody representing me making statements to the press, local or national nor have we made personal comments about the chairman or his financial situation. This is the first time I have commented on the matter.
I hope this now brings closure to these events and allows me to concentrate on pulling on the shirt and playing with the pride and determination that I hope has always been seen as my trademark and score the goals that will once again bring success to our club.
It is an honour playing for the club, with its supportive fans and great Chairman, Mr Macanthony who I know all harbour the same ambitions as myself. I was Darragh's first signing and Posh have given me the platform to make me the player I am but I am only as good as those around me. I am glad to put outside interferences behind me and concentrate on an exciting season with Posh."
