Relegation play-off boost for Bjerre

PANTHERS' Danish star Kenneth Bjerre produced an excellent performance to finish third in the Elite League Riders Championship at Birmingham last night.
Bjerre showed just the form that has seen him clinch a place in next year's World Championship Grand Prix series as he amassed 13 points from his five qualifying rides to book his place in the final.
Bjerre was the highest scoring qualifier and the only points he dropped were to Aussie aces Leigh Adams and Jason Crump and it was the latter who took the honours in a re-run final.
Crump had hit the deck on the first bend but the referee called all four riders back for a re-run which saw the Aussie star make a superb start to control the race.
Bjerre held second until the final bend of the opening lap but was caught by Rory Schlein so had to settle for third place.
Nevertheless, it was an excellent confidence boost ahead of next week's Elite League relegation play-offs against bottom-of-the-table Wolverhampton.
Fellow Panther Danny King was also in action in Birmingham and did well to collect seven points from his final four rides, having retired in his opener following a fall when in third place.
Given the quality of the opposition and the fact King has not raced much lately, it was a good performance from the young Englishman and a useful opportunity to get some rides under his belt.
