ALAN Biley believes April will be the most important month in Spalding's history.
The Tulips have been given a torrid sequence of fixtures at a critical stage of the season as they bid to secure Unibond Division One South survival.

Biley's men face two matches less than 24 hours apart on the eve of a prestigious county cup final.

The demanding run begins in a re-arranged game at Stocksbridge on Tuesday, April 8 before they return to that neck of the woods to face Sheffield FC on the Saturday.

And the Spalding players can forget about any thoughts of a deserved day off on Sunday as they have another match day against Cammell Laird at the Sir Halley Stewart Field. Then, on Wednesday, April 16, they face Gainsborough Trinity in the final of the Lincolnshire Shield.

Biley said: "In all we will have five massive games in very quick succession at a crucial time of the year.

"We play at 3pm on the Saturday and then 2pm the next day which is obviously not ideal, but now the league and Lincs FA in their wisdom have given us further games.

"The Stocksbridge match was postponed before I came to the club and has now been put back to April and then the county cup final has been put in just after that tough weekend.

"I very much doubt if there has ever been a more important month in the history of Spalding United."

Biley's more immediate concern is guiding Spalding to a long awaited first home league win of the season tomorrow.

The Tulips' prospects of ending their Sir Halley Stewart Field misery are good as they entertain the Brigg side they shared a 2-2 draw with last weekend.

Only a hotly-disputed late leveller denied Spalding maximum points then, but boss Biley is optimistic they can claim a victory tomorrow.

He added: "Obviously it is vital we put the home form right because we have seven games at our place including this one.

"I am a firm believer in setting players a challenge and this week's is to get a result against Brigg. I have seen improvement in the squad in my two weeks here and hopefully that will continue."

STAMFORD boss Dougie Keast reckons fan power can help the club to another win tomorrow.

Keast hailed the contribution of the travelling Daniels fans following his first success as the club's manager at Ossett last weekend.

Now Keast is bidding to follow up with a home triumph over Prescot Cables at the Vic Couzens Stadium tomorrow.

Keast said: "We need to produce another performance like last weekend when the support was superb.

"The supporters really got behind us at Ossett and that came across to the players who really appreciated it."

Keast is likely to name the same side as last Saturday, meaning prolific frontman Ronnie White might have to be content with a place on the bench again.

White hit nine goals in 13 games for Coalville in the Midland Alliance, but new captain Gareth Pritchard and new recruit Andy Tiday appear to be Keast's first-choice frontmen.

Wisbech are at Woodbridge in the Ridgeons Premier Division.
