RAMSEY were condemned to Peterborough League defeat for the first time in 18 months on Saturday.
Paul Taylor's men hadn't lost a league game since April 2007 - during which time they had stormed to the Jaguar Division One title and rocketed to the top of Peugeot Premier Division standings this season.

But their glorious run was brought to an abrupt halt by Rutland Rangers, who stormed to a 4-0 triumph at Cricketfield Lane.

Sharp-shooter Robbie Pearce broke the deadlock with a searing half-volley after eight minutes and Michael Nelson doubled the lead on the stroke of half-time.

Stewart Lambie effectively sealed the points with a splendid individual strike on the hour before Pearce added the final gloss when heading home skipper Jamie Saddington's free-kick to take his tally to a dozen for the season.

Rutland boss Andy Saddington said: "Ramsey only beat us 1-0 in both our clashes last season so we were confident that we could be the first team to defeat them this year.

"There was absolutely no pressure on us on Saturday. Ramsey were the team with the unbeaten record and all the pressure was on them at their place. We could just go there and enjoy our football as we have done all season - and that's exactly what we did.

"We decided to play down the slope in the first half and defend anything we got after the break. The lads produced a great performance to pick up an excellent result, but we are still not going to start making big predictions of what we will achieve.

"All I will say is that a top six would be a great achievement for us because we are just delighted to be in the Premier Division."

The defeat knocked Ramsey off pole position down to third spot. Rutland leapfrogged their victims into second place behind new leaders AFC Fletton.

Ian Rudd's men cruised to a 4-1 win at Wimblington with Andrew Bradley, Lee D'Arcy, Stuart Eason and Michael Sealy among the goals.

AND it was also a memorable weekend at the other end of the Premier Division standings.

Struggling sides Crowland, Peterborough Sports and Stamford Bels all collected their first league points.

A double from midfield ace Martin Ward helped Crowland roar to a 5-1 win over Oundle with Neil Colley, Ricky Jackson and Ashley Pratt also finding the net.

A debut double from former Yaxley striker James Picillo was the star contribution of Sports' 3-3 draw against Parson Drove while Stamford Bels shared four goals at Whittlesey to also get off the mark.
