Bels save their best form for cup games

STAMFORD Bels are bidding to translate their cracking cup form into the scramble for Premier Division survival.
Paul Downs' side have lost all seven league games so far this season, but they are a different proposition when it comes to knockout competitions.
Bels trimmed up Crowland 9-1 in a recent Lincs Junior Cup romp and they produced another eye-catching success on Saturday when Ricky Pozella came off the bench to crack all four goals in a 4-2 victory over Wimblington in the opening round of the PFA Senior Cup.
Pozella, who had recently been dropped to the reserves after a disappointing start to the season, was sent into action after an early injury. And it proved to be a blessing in disguise as he returned to form in style.
Boss Downs, who played the second half in goal following an injury to keeper Keith Eason, said: "We are like the Spurs of the Peterborough League.
"We have been struggling big-time in the Premier Division against some tough opposition, but we have picked up a couple of cup wins.
"Ricky did so well but this was no one-man show. We played really well as a team and got our rewards.
"I asked the lads afterwards why they can produce the goods in the cups and not the league, but hopefully that will change in the near future.
"We need to get points on the board, although it is not going to be easy with Whittlesey, Moulton Harrox and Ramsey all coming up soon."
Martin Porter bagged both goals for a Wimblington side that led 2-1 at half-time.
MOULTON Harrox breathed a huge sigh of relief after sneaking past lower-level Netherton in a PFA Senior Cup thriller.
The Lincs men eventually emerged with a 4-3 success thanks to John Ball's extra-time clincher, but boss Paul Kent admitted they received a real fright.
"Netherton have every right to feel hard done by," said Kent. "Only a couple of great saves from our keeper Rob Heaner late in normal time prevented them from beating us.
"We could have had a couple more in extra-time, but that would have been harsh on Netherton who are a good, well-organised outfit."
Harrox were fortunate to find themselves 2-1 up at the interval thanks to goals from Keith England and Darren Cundy, but Division One side Netherton then roared into a 3-2 lead.
Joe Townsend restored parity before Heaner's vital contributions and a bad Netherton miss sent the tie into an additional half-an-hour where Ball delivered the decider.
"Moulton were there for the taking but we couldn't quite do it," said Netherton official Ian Hair.
"We gave goals away and missed a great late chance in normal time."
