I worry when I hear about all these supposed great ideas on how we can educate young children about the birds and the bees or make them aware of all the sex education services that are available; because I don't think it's a question of them not knowing enough but rather thinking that they know it all.
I find it shocking that children as young as 12 explicitly talk about their relationships using language that even adults in their 30s would shy away from.

And surely introducing children to something out of their context could only cause further detriment.

I think it's senseless to expose children to even more sexual material in the hope that it will help reduce the number of teenage pregnancies or the spread of diseases.

Doesn't the problem have its roots in the lack of love and attention some young people have experienced, rather than lack of education?

A recent letter headed "Motherhood is not an easy option" briefly touched on some of the complexities surrounding the issue, which got me thinking.

Motherhood might not be an easy option for young women, but it seems like an easier one for a few than having to learn what it means to take care of themselves.

In my experience, many people absolutely hate having to focus on their own feelings and are usually clueless about what it means to keep themselves safe, but are so keen to do it for others.

Furthermore, I am sorry to say that I have occasionally seen with very young mothers I have met, that having a baby has not been about anyone's security other than their own.

Their children represent different things, from something done in an attempt to rebel against parents to a chance for them to get out of a horrible situation.

In my view many young people today do not spend long enough being clueless or single.

I have known people who have been in one relationship or another since their very early teens, and they find it difficult to spend any time on their own, which I find extremely sad.

You would think parents would be able to offer some words of wisdom, but I bet in some cases they don't know any better.

I'm sure I've said this before, but I'll say it again. It's not the sexual relationship we are uneducated in; it's the loving one we don't have a clue about.
