Luke Dixon, who struggled in the classroom has been nominated for an award after working with animals changed his life.
Luke (16), of London Road, Woodston, Peterborough, has special needs, and had been excluded from two secondary schools before ending up at the Learning Education and Achievement Partnership (LEAP) between Peterborough City Council and Perkins Engines.
But since LEAP placed him at New Ark Farm in Peterborough he has been a changed young man.
Now Luke has been nominated for Stagecoach Young People of the Year in Cambridgeshire (YOPEY), an award which recognises positive role models.
Farm manager Carolyn Bellamy said: "Luke interacted well with special needs adults, and young children who visited the farm. He guided them, answered their questions and showed them where to find things."
Now Luke has left LEAP and the farm and wants to train to become an electrician.
He said: "It is great to be nominated for an award like this, everyone is pleased for me."
