Maureen Plater, whose husband spent long periods in Peterborough District Hospital has helped to provide vital equipment to specialist nursing staff who cared for him in the last months of his life.
Mrs Plater, together with support from friends and family members, was able to donate equipment including a blood pressure machine and pulse oximeters, to British Heart Foundation (BHF) Nurses, based at Doddington Hospital, near March

Mrs Plater made the kind-hearted donation following her husband's death, asking people to donate money instead of flowers to enable the equipment to be purchased.

She said: "In the last six months of his life, Michael spent long periods in Peterborough District Hospital. Once stabilised he was able to be cared for at home with the support of the BHF heart failure nurses.

"I was very impressed by the kindness, care, help and support they gave both Michael and myself.

"The nurse did everything she possibly could to help prolong Michael's life, which in the last six months was a huge struggle. Michael could not praise her enough and looked forward to her visits.

"I am very grateful to both the British Heart Foundation nurse, Liz Woodruff, and Dr Martin Taylor at Cornerstone Practice for all their support. Michael could not have been looked after better by a truly wonderful team.

"In Michael's memory I will carry on raising money for even more pulse oximeters."

British Heart Foundation nurse Liz Woodruff said: "We are very grateful to Mrs Plater for her generous donation."
