CORBY 2 POSH 2
THE sick, the lame, the unwanted and the kids delivered a draw for Posh in their latest pre-season friendly at Corby.
But it was a case of mission accomplished for manager Darren Ferguson who saw new winger Sergio Torres and the club's longest-serving outfield player Jamie Day get vital run-outs, while transfer-listed players Danny Crow and Josh Low reminded the football world they are still around by scoring the Posh goals.
Most Posh eyes in a crowd just in excess of 300 were trained on Torres who was making his first appearance in club colours and the Argentinian trickster didn't disappoint.
Torres created an early chance for Adam Smith, which was blocked, before winning the penalty which Crow converted in the 32nd minute to give Posh the lead.
Unfortunately a rash challenge by young central defender Sam Gaughran on former Posh striker Matt Nolan enabled Corby to equalise immediately from a spot-kick of their own. Stephen Deehan just squeezed the ball past Mark Tyler.
Torres departed at half-time, while Day lasted an hour. Senior striker Liam Hatch was also in action after recovering from illness and he was in the thick of the action throughout, although his finishing was unerringly inaccurate.
Hatch shot wide from a Billy Crook cross just before the break, and twice headed over from Josh Jirbandy centres in the second-half.
Low showed Hatch the way to goal in the 62nd minute after a neat exchange of passes with Crow. Crow's back-heel enabled Low to dink the ball over the advancing keeper and that goal looked like setting Posh on the way to victory.
They dominated the next quarter-of-an-hour, but couldn't quite find a finish. Smith, another player on the transfer list, came closest when his low drive struck the outside of a post.
Young substitute Nathan Koremteng, who scored in the draw at Brackley in midweek, also came close, but it was Corby who stole away to sneak an equaliser 11 minutes from time.
Again Nolan was involved as his clever pass set up Jon Stevenson to finish past Mark Tyler. Tyler had been made captain for the day and he and central defender Shane Blackett were the only senior players left on the pitch at full-time as Posh flooded the pitch with their young talent.
Posh: Tyler, Reed (sub Jirbandy, 39 mins), Day (sub Andrew, 60 mins), Gaughran, Blackett, Torres (sub Webb, 46 mins), Crook (Ginty, 78 mins), Low (sub Abraham, 74 mins), Crow (sub Koremteng, 69 mins), Hatch (sub Lyons, 85 mins).
