A PERSONAL view by The Evening Telegraph's Chief Sports Writer Alan Swann.
EARLY in his Posh career Mark Tyler was asked how he would like to be remembered.
'As a good goalkeeper and a nice bloke,' he replied. Well, he's surpassed his own expectations on both counts.
That's why a 10,000 gate shouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility tomorrow. Even against a team with few household names, Mark's popularity and loyalty should ensure a higher crowd than the so-called more prestigious friendlies at London Road this summer.
Loyalty is a rarely-used word in football these days. Players tend to change clubs as often as they change their socks, but Mark seems to have been at Posh longer than the pot holes in the car park.
He's had to be good to survive that long and I can vouch for the 'nice' part of his personality. He's an excellent ambassador for the club as well as being one of their best-ever goalkeepers.
There hasn't been a more deserving testimonial staged at London Road since Tommy Robson's in the early 1980s. He deserves every penny he makes on Saturday.
