Darren Ferguson's reign as Posh manager is over. Ferguson's position was the subject of intense media speculation yesterday (Monday) after reports of his dismissal emerged.
The Evening Telegraph understands manager Ferguson has been involved in crunch talks with senior club officials during the past two days.

Tuesday, 12 noon: Assistant manager Kevin Russell took the Posh training session today.

All parties were tight-lipped when leaving London Road late yesterday afternoon, but director of football Barry Fry later confirmed the current position.

He stressed that Ferguson's departure was yet to be formalised but expected both parties to conclude negotiations on the matter today.

Fry said: "Nothing surprises me in football. I and the club would like to thank him for his miraculous achievements with the total support of the chairman in the near three years he has been at the club and we wish him and his family all the best in the future."

Ferguson could not be contacted by The Evening Telegraph. His assistant manager Kevin Russell's position was unclear last night.

Bookmakers have already opened markets on Ferguson's successor. Former England Under 21 chief Peter Taylor - a man sacked by League Two club Wycombe last month - was installed as a 4/1 joint favourite with Steve Coppell.

Rookie Oxford manager Chris Wilder, who has guided his team to the top of the Blue Square Premier Division, has been suggested as a candidate.

"Notthing surprises me in football" says Fry.

So in other words, this decision has nothing to do with him.

What is the point of him being at London Road?

What madness! Two years of miracles and his job is judged on 16 games. Nice one fellas!!! It has clearly been a learning curve in this league - but give the guy a chance.

We have always performed better in the second half of the season under Ferguson, and we would have done so this season. What now for the players??? If the new man coming in doesnt like our better players, will they go too? The dream is now de-railed.

Any one out there remember the desperate, awful football played under Fry and co?????

Wish you all the best Darren - you made watching Posh a pleasure again after so many depressing years. Good luck in your next job.

Steve Coppell gets my vote. Doubt we could afford him though. Please not Peter Taylor. The Oxford manager is more in Darraghs price range and type of young manager he prefers. Fry out !

Can't believe this has happened. Two successful seasons and then, just a few matches in and Darren's gone.
Shame on the powers that be at Posh!!!!!
Good luck Darren.

Worried Mariner,

Please dont send Ryan Bennett back to us 10/11/2009 09:45:45
Please don't send Ryan Bennett back to us. He is damned awful. I am not suprised that Ferguson got the sack. His ability to recognise talent must be useless if he planned on giving us £500,000 for Bennett in January when his loan finnishes and the transfer window opens. The lad has been our captain and centre half in a team that would now be in the Conference had it not been for Luton Town's demise. I am hoping and praying that Peterborough do not send Ryan Bennett back to us, which will add to our growing problems.

We have no choice now but to pay out for an experienced manager.

Anything else and we should have stuck with Fergie.

..and I don't mean Peter Taylor. That would be a backward step.
