ROVERS boss Paul Trollope has sounded a warning to the makeshift Posh defence.
He reckons his in-form strikers are going to get even better.

Rickie Lambert and Darryl Duffy have scored six goals between them in the last two League One matches and Trollope believes the £300,000 he splashed out on the pair is money well spent.

Duffy cost Rovers £100,000 in the summer, half the fee which landed Lambert two years ago,

Trollope said: "We feel Rickie and Darryl have got a good partnership going and that both of them will score goals. We hope to carry that forward.

"The partnership is still in the early stages, but we feel it will only improve as they get to know each other's games inside out.

"We've been good in the opposition's box, which is something we've worked on, and when you take the chances that come along, it changes the game."

Rovers followed a 6-1 drubbing of Hereford at The Memorial Stadium with an excellent 2-2 draw at title favourites Leeds United.

But a full-strength side were surprisingly hammered 3-0 by Jimmy Quinn's Bournemouth in the first round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

Trollope is hoping Posh suffer a backlash to that disappointing display tomorrow.

Trollope added: "We must improve because it's a very tough game for us at Peterborough.

"It was a disappointing displa on Tuesday, especially as we'd done so well in the two previous matches.

"But footballers should be able to perform Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday so it was a frustrating night.

"The players gave their bodies and souls to the games against Hereford and Leeds, but it looked a completely different side at Bournemouth.

"We were very poor and just got steadily worse as the game wore on.

"If I was a player who had been involved in that performance I would be looking over my shoulder wondering whether or not I'm going to keep my place.

"We will analyse what went wrong and hope that it was just a blip.

"We have to turn our form around quickly or we will be in trouble tomorrow."

Trollope is in the fortunate position of having plenty of firepower at his disposal, should Lambert of Duffy suffer injuries.

One-time Posh loanee Wayne Andrews is at the club as is Joe Kuffour, a striker who performed well at League One level in a struggling Bournemouth side last season.
