RENE Howe is ready to fill any vacancy in the Posh forward line.
The 21-year-old will be one option should wantaway star striker Aaron Mclean get his wish to leave London Road.

Mclean, the scorer of 33 goals last season, was placed on the transfer list at his own request earlier this week.

Howe spent much of last season at Rochdale, helping them to the League Two play-off final at Wembley, but he's back at Posh determined to fight for a first-team place.

Howe said: "The loan spell at Rochdale was a great learning experience for me and hopefully will stand me in good stead for the future.

"I scored 10 goals in just over 20 appearances and to play at Wembley was a fantastic experience and something I will never forget.

"However, it was always the intention to come back to Peterborough and try and force my way into the side.

"I believe in my own ability and I believe that I can do a job. I know that I have to work harder as a target man.

"I found that out playing week in, week out and I am prepared to work hard in pre-season to force my way into the team.

"Playing week in, week out in League Two has improved me as a player and I believe that I can do well in League One.

"I think I bring something different to the squad and that could be important.

"Pre-season training has already been tough, but I did a bit during my summer break, which was shorter than most because of the play-offs, and it wasn't too much of a shock to the system."

Howe, who joined Posh from Kettering last summer, will join the rest of the first-team squad on the plane to Marbella for their summer training camp on Sunday morning.

Mclean will also be travelling, but left-back Jamie Day will miss the trip after picking up a niggle.

The transfer listed players will not be travelling. Winger Josh Low was due to hold transfer talks with League One rivals Swindon today.

Youth team players Billy Crook, Darren Gourlay and Callum Reid are travelling to Marbella for the week-long trip.

THE League One match between Posh and Bristol Rovers at London Road on Saturday, September 6 will be screened live by Sky television (12.15pm kick-off).

DAVID Oldfield has been appointed manager of the Posh Under 18 side. Oldfield played for Posh 96 times between 1999-2002.

POSH have denied reports on Sky Sports that they are interested in Charlton winger Dorian Smith.

The Addicks only snapped up Smith from non-league club Tooting and Mitcham in January.

I can't say that I was all that impressed with what I saw of Howe last season. Can smebody tell me what it is he has to offer?

If Rene has commitment to Posh, that is good. Better than a disgruntled, ungrateful pipsqueak.

I thought he was ok, not the same sort of player as McLean, but has plenty to offer!
